Wider/lower offset wheels can cause wheel bearings to fail faster than stockers since they increase the stress on them. But yeah, bad wheel bearings almost sound like your tires are really out of balance or something. Happens at certain speeds as well, not throughout everything. The hub assembly for my VW was 180 bucks, EACH. GR!

Yeah most likely its your wheel bearing now.
Its worth a change anyways since you got
a old model car.

Here is something you can do to test it.
Lift up the front of the car and shake the wheel holding the top and bottom of it.
By this, I mean push the top and bottom of the wheel alternatively as you are facing it.
If the wheel bearing is bad, you can feel it moving when you shake it.

sorry for bringin up an old thread, just wanted to confirm for s14 5 lugs. We can't replace the wheel bearings? We have to buy new hubs?
