And you have it sitting on it's oil pan instead of on a stand.

Make sure the pan isn't dented. Pull it off and check for metal in the pan too.

I think you all are just jealous of the purple plug cover!

Seriously though,.. I would try and find a motor that looks like is hasn't been messed with. No paint, no boost controller, no HKS filter, just Bone stock. I turned my first SR away because you could see where an SAFC was wired in the harness. Messing with the fuel means messing with the boost and I dont have time to troubleshoot someone elses mess.

You're an idiot, paying 2300 for that shit motor then asking where to get an engine.

I didn't read all the other replys, so I'm probably not the first to say that the broken line is the coolant line for your turbo. And you paid alot for what you got. I got an S13 redtop, tranny, harness (minus ECU and MAF), intercooler, piping, and gauge cluster for $700 (normally this would go for probably around $2000-$2200 tops), but I have some connections otherwise I wouldn't have gotten that price. But $2300 for that is to much, it looks like you got the engine, tranny and not much else. I'd take that back and go through somebody else for another one. And BEFORE you PAY ask them to do a compression test, take off the valve cover and then you should also check the turbo, and pull out the plugs. If you know what to look for, doing this should tell you if the engine is in good shape or not. If you don't know what to look for, find a friend or make one who does. And if you don't have a stand, at least leave the tranny and engine mated so the thing sits up level on its oil pan on something (even a pallet with some old carpet on it will work, just don't drop it on it's pan, and pull the pan off before you put it in. SR's are very picky about dents in their oil pan...trust me

good luck with your car

Talking

Man starting to feel bad for the guy everybodys giving him a quick kick in the pants over this one. :hammer:

You got the motor so I say bolt on the tranny and starter, pop out the plugs, open the throttle plate, and use a car battey to turn the motor over and compression test it. If you get 145 - 170 psi (and each cyl is within 10psi of eachother) you have a sound motor! At that point wire brush it, degrease it, throw away the :ghey: plug cover, powder coat the valve cover and drop that baby in!!!

I have made some raggedy KA's look real nice after so work.

If it has sh!ty compression like 130, 150, 160, 130 - take it back and cram it up their a$$.

Hope this helps!

Well, first of all, that engine looks like shit.
Second, it's way overprice... fuck, I got an MKIII 1JZ front clip for less than that...
third, nominal compression readings according to FSM are: 156 psi on all cyl, within 14psi difference. Low = 120 psi and less..

I know what the FSM says my point is that I wouldn't keep a motor that looks like crap unless the internals where in great shape not - mediocre shape.

Besides if you want to get technical the FSM says bring it to operation temp before the test so his readings are going to be on the high side anyway.

I am just trying to give him something constructive to work with, he obviously is not experienced mechanic or other wise he wouldn't have bought something so beat looking.

Never wanted an SR really, but I sure as hell wouldn't pay for that one. Look at all that rust, dust, and other signs of aging on that crap. Someone would have to give me that engine.

Sounds like you need better friends, because your friends "shop" just fucked you over from the looks of it.

$2300 isn't bad for a redtop but it is for that engine. Heavy Throttle has their redtops for $2650 and XAT racing has theirs for $4188 with labor so it would come to around the same price. WIth those two companies you know you are getting a really good engine and good service.

I know a guy that sells front clips for $2799. He runs them and does a compression test. He also sends you a video clip of what the engine looks/sounds like when running. If he knows the engine isn't that great he will tell you. My friend was looking at buying one and the guy told him that it was a drift car and he recommended another one.

Sometimes it is worth paying more for something from a good company because you know you are getting something good. But that engine isn't worth the money. That is why you never do business with a friend.

I wouldn't pay for restocking fee. Did you see the engine before you bought it? It is like buying a watch online that comes with a cracked crystal. You won't pay for a restocking fee for that.

$2000 for a clip is very low. It is either a really good deal or it is low for a reason.
