I would go with a Radeon. They are mutch better for that kind of stuff than the Geforce 2. Im not talking about the 8500(newest for you non nerds). But anything made within the last year or two will do good. Hope I helped.

tv out means that the tv signal goes from the pc to the tv and not the other way around

u need tvin to capture stuff on your pc from the tv

i highly dissagre radeon does not do a better job for tv out
all it does is have better tv in (most gf2s dont even have tvin)

with any card though ur going to need a long ass audio cable or ur going to have to use ur pc speackers just so u know

gf2 is a good gaming, 3d and 2d card where the radeons spread themselfs too thin by doing too much so their 3d lacks to say the least

i have a Gainward GTS PRO GF2 w/ tv out and i love it and watch my divix movies on my tv all the time and its still a bad ass gaming/graphic design card

No, the Radeon cards are specifically designed to do things like this, video editing, and some other things, my pops has the 8500 and it has more things than I know what to do with.

actually, drifterx87 was talking about watching movies FROM his computer TO his TV...and yes, you will be able to do this.

also, the ATI All-In-Wonder video cards are excellent for this...personally, I go with either the voodoo5 5500 or a geforce3 TI or up, only because I'm concerned about gaming, not TV stuff. but everyone I know who uses their computer to TV, or TV to computer, uses ATI stuff...so I know it's excellent...and it's way cheaper too. kinda funny something is actually cheaper and better at the same time then the other stuff......wait, kinda like our 240's!!

but anyways...back to the topic. if you get a video card with a TV out, you WILL be able to watch your downloaded InitialD, Option videos, etc. on the TV....

honestly, if you haven't bought your card yet...I'd get a radeon 7500 All-in-wonder card. ati 7500

You don’t know what you are talking about or if u do u don’t understand what he’s asking

radeons do editing yes... that’s not what he’s asking for he’s talking about tvout which is totally different you would think tv in and out are about the same things but they arnt really

If u want to get picky over what’s a really good capture card then ATI wouldn’t even be in the running they try to do too much with one card and it makes everything mediocre

Radeons are for people on budgets that want to do high end stuff, nothing wrong with em really they are just beginners cards and lack in 3d. I like em for basic capture but they aren’t anything anyone serous about digital video would use. I personally would never use ATI

I know where to get Initail D videos but where can Iget Option videos.

I have loads of divx movies, between me and a couple of my friends we got like all the dvd quality movies. Only bad part is we watch em on our comp screen, although I like mine, its 19 inch and my speakers are good too. I have a 75 watt sub 4 speakers, but I like my home theater better. It's a 500 watt 5 speaker and 50 watt sub.

Anything you do on your PC will goto the TV with a TV out card. However text on your TV will look like crap no matter what it seems. Movies and games are cool though. Theres nothing like playing Counter Strike on a 51" TV

ah, the vid card wars. Well, i got a 1ghz K7 with 896mb ram 512 L1 cache, an XTASY GeForce3 Ti card, hi-fi surround sound, a monitor and a TV. Maybe my TV's just old and crappy, but since it doesn't have the S-Video input, i have to use A/V jacks to connect it. The resolution ends up being crappy as hell. I'm sure it would be badass on a new 64" TV with an S-Video jack though. I plan on getting a 21" flatscreen and don't watch TV too much so there's no sense in me using TV-Out. I do make techno though, and when i have shows in my room (light shows, big bass, black lights, the whole deal) i bring in my big TV and hook that up to WhiteCap for a video show. With my card i can switch between TV or monitor so when i mix, it doesn't interfere with the lights, then switch it back over to the TV when i'm done. Anyways, that's just my setup. TV-out is cool, but i really have no use for it, hope you do.

w/ TV-Out means you can watch on your TV. Usually do this by wiring through a VCR.. but not necessarily.

TV-Tuner means you can watch TV on your computer.

Video-In allows you to capture video on your computer.. (from camcorders, vcr, etc.)

Man, u need to get on some review sites.... Check it out... HardOCP, Anandtech

GeForce 2 is hecka old, you should consider getting somehting a little newer... all within your budget of course... If you can, try and wait a bit, so prices will drop more, and get a vid card that is Direct X 8 complient. That way, it'll be good for the next couple of years or so...

Whoever suggested a Voodoo5... GL finding one, and or new drivers... Don't get a Voodoo card unless its given to you or its 5 bux! waste of money and time...

blah

Omega is right...
I still have a GeForce 2 MX 64sdram and a GTS pro 64DDR.
Either one of the will do great for video/graphics use...

I also do believe the Radeon is for "people with a budget"
But you can get a GeForce 2 for an exceptional price now.

If you are into performance issue, it would be good to have a good motherboard, chipset..etc

Questio For All - - - -

So what type of computers does everyone have???

I am running a:
1.7 Ghz Athlon Xp Processor and Via chipset.

I run a bbp built P3 800 with a GeForce 64 meg vid card. I used to play Q3 pretty hard. Got my 240 and now I'm in the garage all the time. Gaming is definately a winter sport here in Ohio (my home office is like 100 deg in the summer...so is my garage, but the 240 is way more fun than the computer...except for the porn j/k&#33

sure...... j/k.. uh huh .. LOL

anyways.. Screw GF2.. GeForce4 all the way!! you can get one on ebay for $250 and it'll do anything better than probably anything else out there.

Anyways.. I've found that all these new processors and Vid Cards etc. is all pretty useless still. i have a Dell I bought when I went to college 3 years a go. Since I bought it I have upgraded it to 40 gb of HD, 850mhz PIII 320mb Ram with a Geforce 2 GTS 32mb card. It'll do anything the new high powered PC's do, and only a half a sec slower.. Right now I still have no reason to upgrade. Maybe in 3-4 years when software catches up to hardware. It MIGHT be necessary.

Yeah....right now having all that power is pretty much useless cuz like there are not enough games, applications...etc out there that will actually use all that power...

Im' sure your Dell is Fine

Maybe if I was someone doing a bunch of photo editing or whatever - but whatever....

exactly.. Videoediting and High end Graphics work, and 3d rendering is about the only stuff out there that can benefit.. and for that just buy a dual ghz Mac.. It'll work better anyway.
