950 degrees celcius is 1742 degrees fahrenheit.... basically enough to start melting low grade steel.

you might want to make sure its celcius, if its actually fahrenheit thats not too bad.

well, I figure I'd do myself a favor, and check my timing, sure enough I was about 15 deg off! i was @ TDC!!, set it to 15 BTDC, and went out for a drive. my EGT is now not over 800c degree. phew...
Now would somebody want to explain to me, why is it. that I was running lean when my timming was retarded to TDC, and better with more timming??? will somebody enlighten me on this fact?? thanks in advance. C
and o yes, my car feels soo much better now.

Fisrt,
good to know you went and checked your timing and found the problem
before you turned the engine into metal soup with extra pulp.
I kept my eye on the gauge last night just to see what cruising temps are
like and at 85mph I was running at 720C and at WOT up to 120 never went over
825C. It was kind of cool last night so I assume I would see temps at around
840 - 850C in the afternoon. I have the sensor mounted just like you have it
just b4 the turbo.
The explanation is simple, you now have the timing the way it should be.

why didn't you all tap the manifold on the leanest cylinder?

He Asked Why Didn't They Tap It For The Leanest Cylinder.... Which Would Make Sense Because It Would Be The Most Tall-tell Sign Of A Problem, But At The Collector Is Good Enough For A Proper Reading.

I have somewhat the same problem. My EGTs hit 1650 F at times in 5th gear (round 140km/h) under slight load, they however around the 1600 F marker. My timing is set to 17 deg though so I really dont know what my problem is.
