Driveshaft question - yes, I searched

First, go here to see the pics:

http://www.sr20forum.com/showthread.php?t=133902

Shouldn't require you to register to view the thread. As you can see I've got two different S13 driveshafts, one from a 5-speed car and one that was swapped to 5-speed from auto. I'm just curious what I've got on my hands and whether anyone recommends one over the other.

TIA.

ones a auto driveshaft ones a manual. The one with the big bolt section right before the input splines is a manaul.
The auto one has different splines and will not work on a manual trans . the rear halfs are swappable.
trust me on this the one that I identified as a auto will not work on a manual trans.

thats strange

drift freaq... do you know if they changed the driveshaft design going from s13 to s14? the driveshaft on my s14 definitely doesn't have that 'big bolt' section. naturally it works on a 95 manual trans and on a 97 as well.

Yes, S14 driveshafts are different...and you CANNOT interchange S13 and S14 driveshafts.

Did you read the post? Both came out of cars that currently have manual transmissions. Therefore neither can be a true auto driveshaft.

They both fit, worked, and both cars drove fine before I started taking them apart. It's possible that the rear section on the supposed automatic shaft was already switched out, since the rear sections on BOTH shafts in the picture are identical in length. That car WAS swapped from an auto to manual, so I guess that's what happened.
