Speed sensor. There should be one 10mm bolt bolting it to the trans.

I'm not aware of any other way to read speed.

Yes, I believe trans fluid will come out.

get s15 trans and rear end.
S15s have the speed sensor in the rear end plus you get the 6speed goodness.
Bad news: They are not cheap.

Don't make things more difficult they need to be.
Plenty of SRs have been put into dimes with no problems whatsoever.

its a datsun 1600. engine bay is much smaller than a 510. which also means the bulky 6-speed wont fit in the transmission tunnel. oh well, back to cuttin'.

try fitting an SR bellhousing on a CA18ET/CA20E s12 200sx box. If you can, get an 1986-88 transmission (stronger than the 84-85 ones). Its a much smaller tranny, but it'll take s13 bellhousings. I run a KA24 in my s12, and all that I did was swap the s13 bellhousing onto the smaller CA20E tranny. It also uses a mechanical/cable speed sensor that is smaller than the electronic one that s13's use.

oh you're putting it into a roadster? nice.
I've seen a few SR20DEs go into those.
