![]() Ive been planning on rebuilding my ka24de in my 91 240sx and getting a turbo kit for it. Then i found a short block on importperformanceparts.net that is machined & assembled w/over-sized pistons, rings, matching crank kit, connecting rods and camshafts for only $819 from "topline". Ive heard that the stock ka24de motor comes with forged pistons. this is an OEM short block but it seems like it would be impossible for it to be that cheap if it comes with forged pistons. so my first question is if anybody knows if it does or doesnt come with forged pistons. the bore on this block is 96mm compared to 89mm on the stock block. ive also heard that if your planning on turbocharging you shouldnt get oversized pistons. so my second question is if i should go with these oversized pistons or not. any information at all about these subjects would be greatly appriciated.

ok, my mistake. but still i would probably like to get this short block and just buy some forged pistons to put in it because it still sounds like a hell of a deal. so if anyone has any answers about the oversized pistons please help me out. also, how much could the motor take on the stock pistons?

you should really go out and buy a book on engine buliding. it will help you out alot atleast it did for me.
Why would you buy this block just to rebulid again with forged pistons? why not just do that from the start. |

use the SEARCH button. or go to www.ka-t.org. Read threads before asking questions, because you are not the first that has done this. Answers and more results await you if you just search.

Why do you keep calling it a short block?????? The 2.2/2.4litre naps-z/ka24e/de engines are long blocks.
2.0litre engines and below are short blocks, it is in reference to the deck heigth of engine block. For rebuild kits those topline kits are alright, but you would be better off putting together your own kit with better parts.

well that is what they call it on the site and i think they probably know more than you bigvinnie. ive always thought a short block came with just the internals and a long block came with a complete head, intake, timing components, etc.

isnt short block just the bottom end, but a longblock includes the head?
thats how I have understood buying crate engines.

Shiat I said something stupid and we learned from it...... What can I say learned this thing called humility. I fuck myself on definitions everyday....
Yeah on another note. www.ka24de.com sells supertech pistons for a little under $489, supposedly they are the best for the KA. www.nizzx.com sold eagle forge rods for the KA24de and E for $389 in H beam, I don't know if they have sold out of them yet, but it was a seasonal deal.

Depends on how much boost. anything over 6-8 will need stronger internals basically. There are people running 10-15psi on stock blocks, but they won't last very long.
