i've never touched the ABS system, one of the thigns i looked for was the ABs sensor equipment in the engine bahy near the firewall. I"ve also never experienced the telltale brake pedal pulsating that comes with ABS equipped cars.

If your car truly does not have ABS and never did, the bulb could be misplaced (or it's a different cluster than OE) and it's lighting up an icon that's actually something else. Say for instance on an auto car you'll have an OD off light, manuals don't have the bulb there but the icon still exists. Find out what spot it's at and check with another car to see what icon is present there, but I'm betting it's nothign to worry about.
If your car has or had ABS, you've already answered it, there's a fault code that's been stored.
