Money???!!!

Maybe this have been covered but i dont know... Where are you all of you getting your money from so you can drop it into your ride? Whenever I look up parts for my ride(S14), lets say coilovers damn thats 1G just for some ok decent ones. I hardly have any money left over from my check due to bills and college etc..

I've noticed some people starts to mod their rides heavily from a recent accident or something caused by old ladies what not and many students from my school cheats the system and gets nearly 1300 free cold hard cash from financial aid...but besides those, how are you getting that extra loot?

You know those women in the redlight district...
I have a job. And that's the way I think 80% of the people get the parts from. Because I don't think that many people wait for someone to crash into them just for a mod. There is always used parts you could buy and I'd say see if at any way you could manage your money better. Or there is the tried and true lotto.

I manage my money wisely...first things first are bills thats killa for me. I understand that hard working is the key, but say for instance, I'd love to go turbo but HEUZUESS CREEST...looks like I will never put one together any time soon..

Well since hard working is the key..how about: At what age were you when you started adding heavy mods?

Biggest mod is purchacing car. And I bought a few when I was 16. So since I had a job/car I managed my money, and purchaced only parts that actualy do something. So I'd say your best bet is to save for some used coils or get something like Megans, don't let their cheap price fool you.

I make $11 an hour 40/hrs a week. That boils down to Approx 1500 a month. 567 for rent, 45 for cell phone and $200+- for food. That leaves me something like $600 a month for extra shit. There you go. 2 months coilovers. SR in 4. Its just time and hard work.

-Put car + rebuilt engine on a co-signed (parent and me) credit card
-Got a good job, (The Good Guys, 1 year ago as temp. help, worked my way to managment) making good money.
-Went to school so I could live rent-free @ home.
-Saved for mods/pay off car.

I work my ass off for my money. ~3k/month these last 3 months. ~1.8-2k/month before that.

I saved A LOT of money and have payed for nearly everything myself. Only thing I don't pay is rent.

As said before, hard work = mods

p.s. I'm 19.

i bought my 240 for $1000 not running and another beater car for $500. The $500 car lasted me a year before it died which allowed me enough time to save up for most of the modifications I've done to my car. Now, I have a much better paying job and can afford new parts without much saving...in fact, I just bought a 2001 Frontier so I don't have to drive the 240sx 70 miles round trip to work everyday.

You're not going to like this, but it's hard saving, and patience. I remember when I was back in school, and buying something that cost $20 left me sore for days.

My first big project was funded by a personal loan. I didn't have car payments, so it wasn't a big deal to take on a monthly payment. I estimated the cost of the project, took out a loan and the rest was history.

That is how I plan to fund my 240 build, when I'm ready to jump in with both feet. I've been nickel and diming upgrades ever since I got it. However, I plan to do it with an equity loan.

My cost estimates are pretty high, but I build my projects with the idea of getting at least 100,000 miles to justify the cost. That, and I want it!

Ultimately, saving and planning.

i had times of no money, so no toys for the car. then in times of decent cashflow, i'd get some stuff. if the cash flow was reliable enough, i could use my credit card and pay it off later. not a good idea to use it if no money is coming though. now i have a good job. just finished my second week. i still can't understand how much money i make now. the most i've ever made in one year, not counting financial aid is $7000. now i'll be making $45000...should be good times

Here's how I did it. Put together a portfolio to and did well on placement tests to get into a reputable college. Parents bought me a $2000 Supra for school. Went 5 years through college on a budget of $350 per month. Got a good paying internship between my junior and senior year. used the money from it to buy a 60,000 mile 240SX with Silvia face and SR swap and repaint it. Car remained like that through my last year in college, with no mods except Tein lowering springs that I got for Christmas. Graduated college, got a great paying job. Now due to investing in an education to get a good job, I have the disposable income needed to modify my S13 and drift it, and make car payments on a new Evo. So, umm, to reinforce the cliche, "Stay in School!"

werd on that!

I have one more semester left in grad school.

I made good money when I was in Cali doing an internship (housing being paid for), too bad back then I only had the Altima so I didn't use my money very well (anyone wants nos??).

This past summer I was in Pittsburgh doing another internship, making dope load of money (78K annualized), too bad the company is sending me back to China for 35K a year, so I ain't taking the job.

I am looking into going back to Bay Area again. As soon as I find a full time offer, I will be modding again. For now, stay in school and be CHEAP...

I goto school, dont pay rent, and have a job. I work about 20hours a week for $9.25. Which for me is enough to eat and get bills payed. But i have many side jobs. I have done tune up and oil changes for friend and family and that gets me a nice extra flow of cash, but its never constent. I actually make about as much money modding xboxs in 1 day then working for a week at work. The only thing is you never have a constant flow of customers. Sometimes i even loose out on cash for a month because of flakers and shit. I prepay for everything so the stuff comes out of my pocket if someone flakes.

A great way is to finish school. I try to motivate myself to finish school but it is damn frustrating from me to sit in class for a couple hours listening to something im not interested in. Once you are done though the cash comes in if you get a good job. IF you think about it, parts only get cheaper with time.

Well,I went from broke and having no expenses living w/parents,to making a shitton of money, moving out and wasting it all I make 9/hr,but not too many hours...and...therefore no car mods in the near future for me What do you think I asked for,for christmas? haha! I'm in school though,so its all good. I'm doing exceptionally well considering I'm 19,I live in a two story house, and own two cars, and still have a small amount of "play money" (food, occiasonal date, gas)

What money? I bust my ass trying to balance work/college/and my highschool classes, but I dont have many expenses other than gas and school. So the little extra cash I have left goes into my car, and recently Im trying to do get some side jobs going. Wish I could land a good sponser or something. Im 17.

Yea, hard work = more mods. It just takes alot of self control and money management. It also helps to not pay rent. I only have my cell phone bill to pay and my credit card bill. Make sure you dont go crazy on the CC cuz it will bite you in teh ass later. I only have one so im fine. also, having a good paying job will do wonders. Im a banquet server so i make pretty decent money. 13-17 bucks an hour altho i dont work 40 hours a week. More like 3 or 4 days a week at 100 bucks a day. Dont waste ur money and dont get a girlfriend!!!

Basically, the idea is to manage what money you do have to where your bills dont outrun your cash flow; whatever, or how little, your income may be.
