my friend has a 95 240sx and just got a 6 puck clutch.
everything else is stock. But when i changed his clutch, (i work at a shop) the other worker saw the flywheels and saw that it was in a bad condition. so we took it to get it resurfaced.  then we put everytihng back on together and a week later, me and my friend ran on a street and i lost. i have the exact same car, 95 240sx but a stock clutch and did not get my flywheels resurfaced. alright. yes i know he can change gears faster, but im pretty confident that i can change gears pretty fast even with a stock clutch. so my question is, was it really the flywheel difference in the race or was it something else?

also, i talked to my boss and he said that as of now ill lose, but later when my clutch fits right with my flywheels, ill win since my flywheels are not resurfaced, when my clutch wears out a little bit, theres going to be more surface area where the clutch and the flywheels are going to be touching. is that true? it sounds pretty good.....thanks

I have no idea why anybody would need a 6 puck clutch (unsprung i assume) on a stock car.  But as for the effects of a lightened flywheel check Here.
"was it really the flywheel difference in the race or was it something else? "
I think you lost because he launches/shifts faster...

You gotta give those puppies about a 500 mile break in with gentle clutch engagement...... then it should grab good

definately dont beat on the clutch before breaking it in...put a brand new one in my mr2 and instantly started beating on the clutch...15 miles and the clutch surface broke apart...let me tell you...for the extra 4 or 5 hours it took me to take the tranny out and put it back in, i wish i would have known to let it break in before i started using it hard...and it was a stock clutch, dont know if the 6 puck would be even fussier (sp) about break in time

there are so many variables when racing used cars it's pretty impossible to tell what the difference maker is.  his engine could be running more effeciently, carbon deposits could be upping his compression, thus a little extra power. he could be running better oils than you (European car got a 5whp gain from changing trasmission, diff, and engine oil to redline in an M3), his tires might be able to put more power down.

there really isn't any good way to tell why you lost, the simplest answer is he drives better
