Yes, our car does have a timing chain rather than belt, but no, you shouldn't expect it any time you hear a clicking. The timing chain problem is mainly with the S13. Basically, Nissan threw a real flimsy little chain guide in the S13 that will eventually fail. It is a known issue, I believe there was a technical bulletin, but it was not a recall, so you'll have to pay for any work done ;-) Really, it's usually not a problem until closer to 100k+ miles, and its more of a consistent clicking throughout the RPMs (the chain is hitting the guard). Yeah, if it gets far enough out of hand, the chain can eat up your engine. Those guides just need to be replaced... unfortunately that's a lot easier said than done. Anyway, it is mainly an S13 problem. I wouldn't totally rule it out for you, but it would definately be down the line of possibilities. You've got an S14 with low miles...
