Spoiler

As if the lack of sales to the Nissan crowd could have detered these pine peddlers of goods, they bring us a new innovation.
Self-Adjusting Spoiler. Adjusts automatically by WIND!!!
Woot! Wind!! Nearly $500 retail? I'll take two, and stack them on top of eachother.

But my main concern is... if it adjusts by wind... then won't it give ABSOLUTLY no downforce? It wouldn't angle itself against the wind, cuz wind is going to make it have the best possible path.
So, if anyone can prove this wrong, I'm off to buy 5 of these fine products.
-Jeff

this is what the company says, but we all know that they lie their asses off a lot just to sell products sometimes. but here it is:

-Because it's wind adjust, it will always give you the best aerodynamic down force to stabilize your car while in high speed.
- Full Aluminum Construction
- Light Weight
- Increase the Stability of the car at High Speed

i'm sure u'd want to know a little more about it before u or neone else bought it though. wish i could put some insight on this, but i have honestly never seen, read, or talked about those before. just wanted to point out what they said as a point of debate.

You are right Jeff. Downforce happens because the wind (air) is pushing down against the spoiler. That is why spoilers angle up, as to catch the airflow and force it to move upwards...thus pushing down on the rear of the car.

A spoiler that is "wind-adjusted" is just weight on your trunk. That is the only traction aid it would give.

nope, you're wrong, the force is not generated by wind hitting the sloped the wing, but rather the different wing velocity on top/bottom of wing that generates pressure difference...

by Benulli's eq, higher wind speed creates "vacuum" like condition which cause pressure to drop on that side of wing. See how airplane wings when taking off have opposite shape of racecar wing, so instead of "lift force", gt wings create "down force".

the ebay scam could make sense, depending on the pivot point of the wings... shifting of the wing is by wing force tho.. or drag..

sorry for talkin like a hardass, really gotta get my mind set for summer fellowship..

It depends on the wing, but yeah, most wings use an airfoil shape to generate the downforce, not the angle of the wing directing the wind up which would push the car down. A few spoilers do work that way though. For example, nascar spoilers have no airfoil shape to them at all, they use the angle of attack to generate downforce.

You have two choices when deciding on this wing.

1. Get a wing that is unfunctional and not designed for your car, but seems cool because it can "adjust with downforce"

2. Look gay...
