okay i know a lot of people have heard of this before that the plastic guide that guides the timing chain gets broken up and rattles around making an ugly noise at idle... but my real question is: do i have to get it replaced or can i just take the plastic out? thanks in advance

i have something rattling from my engine bay too i think..   so,, for an s14 can i take it off too?.. where is it?

you can just remove that tensioner and replace your upper chain while you hae the valve cover off.
