Anyone running the SPL Parts Big Brake rotor kit?

Its the adapter kit that allows usage of the 350Z Track edition 12.8 in. rotors

Just wondering what you guys thought about out if any of you has had first hand experience with it

most people don't readily know about the SPL upgrade. I'd say it would be nice to fill up the wheel wells even more with a rotor of that size. Shouldn't be too much of a significant difference, unless you track you car hard (sessions of road racing, not drifting)

I have it. It's nice cause it filled up my rims, but the caliper is to small for the rotor so it doesn't use all the rotor surface. Finding some acutal 350/G35 track calipers would be ideal and look perfect.here are some pics....

...hope this helps

provided that you used the same pads, how significant was the difference versus the z32 rotors?

also, how is brake clearance on those wheels? I'm hoping they clear my Z33 wheels...the normal Z32 brake upgrade cleared with plenty of room though

-NOTE-
I ordered the setup a couple days ago..lol..just making sure I made a good purchase

Thanks Guys

yea man, you lose about 2-3 millimeters of contact---> the brackets move the caliper too far out and not all of the pad is used.

i wouldent worry to much about it not covering all of the rotor, even tho that would be even better but i would think you would still get a good amount of gain in braking power from the increased distance of the caliper from the center becuase of leverage.

Do you really loose pad contact.... that odd i wonder why it would be designed like that unless it was made for the Z33 calipers rather than the Z32 calipers ??

You do lose a little bit of pad contact because the pad/caliper was designed for a disc with a different curvature. It does not affect performance because brake torque does not depend on area of pad contact, it just depends on rotor diameter, pad material and pressure. You will probably wear through pads slightly faster but at least Z32 pads are much cheaper than big brake kit pads

It probably wouldn't look that bad if you bought a Brembo blank rotor, and painted the surface where the wheel sits up against (the hat area), and spray a little bit of paint onto the rotor contact surface.

Once you apply the brakes it'll take all the paint off of the pad contact area, while leaving the area that aren't used by the pads painted still, so it'll look much better that way.

im sure in addition braking power cus of a bigger rotor, you would also have more surface area for heat dissapation, as well as not collecting as much heat, meaning less likely hood of brake fade....

i feel very hesitant about the hang over... does anyone have a picture of this hang over? is it a super small amount? does it go across the top of the pad? is it a huge chunk?

its about the thickness of 2 or 3 rotors stacked on top of each other. but im wondering if you can defeat this by running evo or sti rotors(13inch) ?

Best bet is if you have some 18in rims use the new G37 calipers and rotors all around rears are a bolt and play with the z32 conversion - you will need a brake bias adjuster as well a upgrade the brake master.

if you dont want to go that route buy the z32 coversion f/r with brake master but go with a 2peice hat and floating rotors

good luck.

Holy cow old thread!

I don't think that SPL even makes these adapters any more

I got mine from Punk Racing. Uses a 13" Cobra/G35 rotor.
