VG isn't close to the best platform. It has a huge wide and heavy block.
The engine has cooling issues in stock trim from block to head. It has a horrible displacement for it's stroke. The VG is an under achiever that is why in Japan the RB outperformed and outsold in the Japanese market place. I feel I am one to talk since I also own a VG33e 2004 frontier. It's performance speaks for itself, 20mpg sucks and it only makes 180hp at the flywheel (210ft/lb.s of torque). The new titans are V8 (VQ56de) with a larger displacement and make over 130 more HP at the flywheel and make a good estimated 20mpg freeway mileage. (thinking on trading in the frontier for a titan with more power and the same gas mileage). To put it bluntly the VG isn't as effecient as most engines are today, it's effeciency also makes it lack in performance. It was a great engine about 15 years ago when ricers were the shiat. But even as a boosted VG it still has horrible cooling issues that eventually blow head gaskets and the turbo's also.... I say go with an LS1 or even a VQ35, both of those engines are much more effecient..... Last edited by BigVinnie; 03-25-2006 at 12:31 AM.. |
