Here are some current ones... Ugh... some of those that Dousan posted were from 2 years ago! Shiiiiit. The Lotus was recent (4 months ago) but everything else ws pretty old.

These next 2 are due... Thurs. Got 2 more to do for that final. Here's the deal... I love old late 60s/early 70s show cars from Italy. Like te Bertone Alfa Romeo Carabo, Ferrari Modulo, Maserati boomerang, Alfa Romeo Iguana Lotus Esprit, etc.

So using those as inspiration, i did this Maserati Taglio project. Its a huge car, slightly bigger than an S class, but smaller than a Maybach.

Full luxury, zero emissions (electric) and no noise. Power is from generator in traditional trunk area and the car is powered by all 4 wheels with in-wheel electric motors. Main storage space is now under the glass that woudl be the "traditional" hood. The steep rake is justified by the lack of engine up front, which would normaly prohibit a low hood.

Blah blah blah. Here are the renderings. I'll post some other random sketches and renderings i have as i go through them tonight.

You seriously gave me an idea about Maserati. I'm going to try to "draw" the biturbo, and update it.

1968 Bertone Carabo (for Alfa Romeo).

1970 Ferrari Modulo. by Pinninfarina

This car was the main inspiration for the Pinninfarina Maserati Birdcage 75th done last year. You think that car is rad... now you see the Modulo and will go "OOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH."

Here's the Birdcage 75th:

How they both open...

"OOOOHHHHHHHH." LOL IMHO

BTW, i think the Birdcage 75th is radiCAL. Its a nice design that has been inspired by the glory days of concept cars and applies it contemporarly and with awesome technology. Plus it looks dead sexy bitch.

This is what I tried to capture in my Taglio. Inspired by the ridiculous, but applied somewhat believably. i could have said it was a hovercraft that rolled around on spheres and made it looks ultra-future but... WTF fun is that, that's cheating IMHO. It is SO much more challenging to do a crazy wild design that can actually be built within reason. I mean sure, that Taglio may be a $200,00 car or something, but its not out of the question. The windshield and hood were originally gonna be at the same angle (well the initial sketches) but once on package... thee is no fricken way in cold hell to get away with that. Its like... look, my driver can only see the refracting sun through the windshield. It does 2 things: "WOW that's cool looking and fresh." but then 5 minutes later: "Wait a tick, that is an impossibility. it is not physically possible."

That's cheating to me. A cool design that would NEVER work... i'm not talking oh every car needs to have x at point y for the rest of z amount of years. no, but somehing that looks feasible at some point of time, is more impressive that a cartoon, ya know. [/rant].

Yep.. That Modulo is the Jam, except i really hate the rear fenders. They are too round and way too big. The rear wheels are huge. Its the only thing that kills it for me on that car...

Well i was a huge fan of Pinninfarina when i was growing up. My dad allways used to talk about his lines, and designs. My dad grew up as a car designer at gm. 66-74 then went to ford. He invented the cowl induction hood, and designed the feder lines, and flares on the late 60's vettes, and camaros. In addition to other stuff. Anyways. i was a big fan until i noticed that Pinninfarina didnt addapt to his day. most designers will take a project, then evolve it, then take feedback, and make changes from there. Pinninfarina just does the same lines, and ideas as he allways has done. i have lost alot of respect for him and other designers over the years that think their own designs are so awsome that there will never be anything better, and they never change.

Improvment is all about change, and learning.

Pinninfarina is now a company. And yeah, they do mostly the same style stuff and don't stray too far. But to their credit, it's admirable to say the least that they are not conforming. Its kinda like. "Here, we rocked for so long, we have a good name. Now like it or die."

Amidst the lacklustre and mediocre product they've churnned for Ferrari recently (snoozetown) Pinninfarina has some of the most gorgeous designs in the history of transportation to their credit. And they still push the envelope every now and then, just to stir things up.

Oh, and their pay is dog piss. They figure once you work there for basically nothing, barely affording rent while designing $1,000,000 Ferraris for a couple years, you can go to any other firm in the world and get hired way high up, b/c you have Pinninfarina on your resume. kinda sucks, but at the same time... SO RAD.

Like i said. He is stuck in the 70's. Pay, design, buisness, etc.

I dont care for his current designs, but his early ones were classics.

I do dissagree on your point that they stirr things up. They have never done anything as a true new technology concept since 1984 with whatever ferrari concept that was that no one liked.

Not trying to hate, he is a contributing factor that all cars are like they are today.

Luke... talking about stuff like the Nido.

From Car Design News:
Quote:
The Nido is a study by Pininfarina that focuses on the issue of occupant and pedestrian safety in a small car. It introduces a new idea of an energy dissipating honeycomb section sandwiched between a rigid passenger cell and a strong monocoque exterior body, where the passenger cell slides forward and progressively crushes the deformable section in the event of a major frontal impact. This is a solution to the problem of engineering a bodyshell soft enough to deform in a collision yet strong enough to resist passenger cell intrusion in a collision with a larger vehicle, a more common problem as SUVs proliferate.

As well a unique functional design concept, the aesthetic design of Nido is probably the most distinctive and advanced at the show and an impressive realisation of several emergent automotive design themes previously only evident in the best student design work. SL

Pretty cool IMO. i think you have to understand most of their mainstream bread-and-butter clients wants typical traditional Pininfarina (like Ferrari). But every once and a while they show nice breadth of design from the Nido to the Birdcage 75th... completely different ends of the spectrum, and both Show-stoppers and beautiful cars. As long as they keep turning those out, who gives a fuck about that shit that brings in the money (big clients). heh.

Haha Barry.. nah, that thing is a rip-off of Lamborghini-mixed-with basic student design work (the very plain surfaces and un-interesting detail.

But it looks like it would kick ass and take names. But shit... 220,000 EU? fuck. That's a god damn lot of money. Just for the sake of argument... Imagine what an extra $170,000 could do to a $50,000 Elise?

But i mean yea... with some real design that Laboratorio BEBI thing would be for serious...
