Still say people should borrow a cheap compressor, buy a cheap harbor freight gun, and spray it inside a garage.

Single stage paint is crazy cheap and you get much better results.

Here's one I did like two years ago.

(Dirty as fawk here)

But, yeah. Car was done in a dusty ass garage, a small 17 gallon compressor, cheap paint gun, and with shitty tools.

For DECENT results, all you really need is a couple of sanding blocks(also cheap), a buffer, and a tiny bit of patience.

I clearly stated it's NOT rattle can. Simply giving advice to those looking to rattle can their cars.

I've rattle canned parts before.

It does the job, but IT DOES NOT LAST.

Fades super quick.

Here's my old rattle canned fender/bumper.

With the amount of work I put into rattle canning that shit, I might as well have painted it with a gun.

Would've been faster, and yielded me better results.

i went to school for collision/refinishing, i'm perfectly capable of painting a car good. you can pull off a good single stage, but it's not recommended to wet sand/buff them for a good finish because it will most likely burn through unless you lay it on thick as shit. also, if i'm going to paint a car with a gun, it's going to be with a GOOD gun and GOOD paint, which my car that i drift isn't going to be done with because i'll cry if i hit something and fuck it up. now my 50 dollar spray paint job, i won't really care.

Completely fucking agree.
Granted I had SHIT for knowledge, SHIT for technique and SHIT for conditions.

It came out better than I expected. FAR from good, but looks ok compared to how it started.
When I get aero real paint/stage 1 is where it's at.

Just this sunday I side swiped the passenger corner of my front bumper. I got a can of paint at home that closely matches. Thing I'm wondering is how I should touch it up. I did a rush job before work one day, but I wanna redo properly because I don't think I can find a fresh pearl white bumper before a meet I'm going to at the end of the month.

Another issue.. where the bumper hit, there's small grooves that got dug in. I dunno whether it can be sanded down or needs to be filled. If filled I have no clue what to use, bodywork is not my thing.

Any suggestions? It's just the corner that's messed up, rest of it is straight. Should I tape off that one section to isolate the rest? Wanna clear it too.

Thanks for any ideas

if it got into the metal, go get some body filler from walmart or auto zone and follow the instructions on the can.

I need to go buy the aforementioned cheap harbor freight paint gun. I have plenty of shit I can practice on before I do an actual car.

Looks like fun, actually. Prep is probably hell.

Thats what you get for spray painting your car. The fact that he only wanted $40 should have gave it away too.

this experiment would only work if you rattle can one part and legitamately paint another
you have to have a control group so you can see the DIFFERENCE between the two types of paint
if not, you're just wasting your time and money

but how will you possibly measure "how fast" or "how much" it fades?
he's doing the experiment because people say it doesn't "last long"
but "lasting long" is completely RELATIVE.
since it's a relative statement, even if it wasn't intentional, people are saying that the rattle can paint job doesn't last AS long as a "good" paint job
i guess he can RE-rattle can a spot NEXT to it periodically to compare how much it faded..

all i'm trying to say is that there has to be SOME sort of control group or some way to measure/figure out how much has actually faded

alright guys anyone wanna give me some input?

I had my car rattle canned Rustoleum Metallic Cobalt Blue, when its wet it looks like the real paint obviously, anyways, I clear coated about 4 coats, wet sanded with 1500 grit, then used polishing compound and then nu finish polish. I have great results compared to how it looked, but my reflection isnt perfect, It has about 70% of the mirror quality that a real paint job has.

Any input? is this my final result? I see some of these pics and it looks like people have achieved what looks like real paint in pics.
