I'm sure they'll make another season cause all the money they made but it was the end of the arc and maybe the series it felt like you can't really continue that ending. They should of had a cliffhanger imo. I can link you guys to the Web novels if you like reading and want to continue the story from where it leaves off

lol really? She's a white woman in the GITS universe? I've never noticed that. Is that why they tried to make Scarlett look Asian? God forbid people want an Asian person to play an Asian role. Try some empathy. It's probably just for marketing purposes and not intentional white washing from Hollywood, I don't know. I just like things to be as close as possible with the original work. If they did a FMA, I hope the actors are English. I cringed at a black Johnny Storm, too. Actually, some works just shouldn't be messed with. I doubt they'll do GITS justice. I'd still watch it, but at the same time it's like, wtf.

Im a pretty emphatic person but the response and just overly sensitive people about a white person playing major is just a joke. To me it seems like everyone has nothing else to bitch about so they try to chew out something without being realistic.

They didnt try the CGI thing on her to look more Asian but a background character. Most likely to save money/time. The cast is already majority Asian and probably the main reason why Asians are misrepresented in media is because they only account less than 6% of america population and frankly most dont want to do theatrical work but rather do something productive in STEM fields or being immigrants like myself just barely get by and dont have time get involved in that area of work. Im sure in japan or china where whites/blacks are the minority they are barely shown in media and very very small group are there in the country to act as there own race. Its common sense.

I personally dont think movies are white washed here and if there is a case where a role is played by the wrong background its for a reason. For this Scarlett has a good track record, well know, it suits her tbh. Be dumb to not use her vs someone who isnt well known, hasnt done many lead female action roles, speaks English fluently, and doesnt have the majors body type which is more of a full build rather than small petite.

I feel like the movie is going to be like a typical block buster, lack luster, studio driven like the marvel movies. Follows generic plot and movie cliches, looks pretty good and have an ambiguous ending so they could lead into a second movie. Feel like its going to as good as a Resident Evil movie but more wacky science and sexy appeal for all the weebs and older men who didnt watch anime.

Sorta related but whenever they try to throw in english into a anime its just hilaroius. Best scene was in Stiens Gate where Okabe meets the black american.

You want to get a big movie made, you need financing. You want financing? You need to sell something.

This movie does not have anything recognizable or nostalgic. 90% of the viewers will see it ONLY because of Scarlet.

By having her you now have an A-list that can promote it and bring in an audience.

Just look at Tom Cruise. The studios let men make all these amazing original sci-fi movies because they know the world loves him and he'll bring in a profit.

If that production team didn't have Cruise, they'd be filming remakes and reboots.

Lastly, if you wanted an Asian Actress, that can draw a crowded.... name one?

Lucy Lu is like 50 years old.

Personally I would have picked Emily Blunt or Charlize Theron. With Theron you'd at least have an African American lead....

I could be a tad bias being south african but YES. I think it funny how there was super big commotion going but yet no one has brought up an american actress who can do the role. Only two asian could fit would be the girl from Pacfic Rim but here accent is too heavy or the girl from suicide squad playing katana even those shes pretty one dimensional. Those are about the only big badass female actress I see.

The rest are too cute and small. Its like having a girl like Anna Kendrick go and play Ripley in an Alien reboot... Doesnt fit her at all.

You guys act like this is something new. Get over it, scarlet in this movie is the same thing as a v8 in an FD car. It might not be original, and it might not be right, but its definitely better. And Scarlett is definitely better than most asian actresses (first that comes to mind is that board that played whatsherface in pacific rim). Even if you dont agree, at least Scarlett is hot.

That's why I said it was probably more marketing and less whitewashing. But I'm assuming the people complaining want more Asians in leading roles, so they at least want Asian roles to be played by Asian actors. But I don't believe you need a popular Hollywood face to sell a movie. For example, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was successful not only here in the US, but around the world. It was subtitled and had an Asian cast that most of America(or the rest of the world) would not recognize. I don't ever recall witnessing, literally, the whole audience standing up to clap at the end of a film, like they did in there. Do you know which is a better marketing strategy than product recognition? Word of mouth. It's only dumb not to use someone like ScarJo if the film isn't meant to be great, which I've now realized about this GITS film. To be honest, I'd like where one day ethnicity of actor vs ethnicity of role didn't matter, but that's another topic for another thread. I like a well done film, but I also like cheesy ones with action and Scarlett's butt. So like I said, I'd still watch it.

I feel like in a way this whole thing with her is basically playing into the word of mouth. Here we are on a car forum talking about it regardless that we havent seen it. I think of movies as two things. A proper film or something to watch when im bored to pass time. Im a huge film guy but even if something is very well made it simply wont beat branding and western marketing.No matter how many times I ramble about my favorite movies my friends will just nob and say okay then spend money on some shitty triple A title. Just like owning a 240 and trying to tell people how amazing they are but normal people will just ignore it and buy little civic or boat of mustang thinking its the best thing since sliced bread. A movie is either made to 1) make money like this or 2) be a work of art and appreciated. Very very few times do we have a movie with a fresh face and it being qualified as a good movie.

I dont think its that big of a deal, there are much more troubling issues regarding race than actors movie rolls. I feel everyone now is just a tad too sensitive on both black/white sides. Im from south africa so I have a pretty unique perspective from truely evil/racist black and whites over there and real oppression and injustice. There are issues here but its not that big of an issue to riot, shit talk the other race and putting everything into groups of. Oppressed/Oppressors, Whites/blacks, Cops/Civilian, Gov/People, Dem/Rep, Left/Right, Feminist/Anti Feminist.

Got around to watching Redline. Story was eh, but I loved the animation.
On a side note, the first race scene damned near gave me a migraine. My eyes have trouble tracking fast movement on screens and they'll flip the fuck out. End up damn near blind for half an hour until they figure out how to focus again.
