If only looking at OEM-wattage 60/55W bulbs, these currently seem to be the best, if the advertised '+percentage over standard' ratings may be trusted:
1. Narva Plus 120 (+120%)
2. Osram Night Breaker Unlimited (+110%, 'white' tint)
3. Philips X-treme Vision (+100%)
3. Narva 48342BL2 (+100%)
4. Osram Night Breaker Plus (+90%, 'white' tint)
4. Narva 48532BL2 (+90%, 'white' tint)

I am considering going back to regular bulbs, since I dislike all the extra junk that comes with HID's.

Though I am not a fan of LED's on old cars, these LED sealed beams do not look as offensive as the other offerings. Too bad about the black bits. I wonder how they would look and perform with some non-clear Sylvania or Hella lenses transplanted onto them.

Don't know if anyone has had this problem with their s13 brick head lights, I've had them hooked up for a while now but recently when I have my low beams on one of them always turns off, I have to jiggle the wire for it to turn on. I've already checked all the wires and they all seem to be soldered fine. This only happens with the low beams because if I switch to high beams they'll remain on. Any thoughts?

Ah, well figure out what they are for sure. If they are old and dingy cheap ones then replacing them with new cibies would give the best improvement, more so than bulbs.

I must say i'm surprised in the 15 pages of this thread no one has done some sort of combination to the S13 brick headlights for better output.

To make the brick headlights better you would need to replace the glass lenses with clear plastic lenses and retrofit HID projectors inside/ in place of the low beam reflectors. When you think about it it would probably make more sense to just do the same thing to a set of dual projectors.

GE nighthawk, raybrig, and all those are great. I wonder if any manufacturer makes an HIR h4 bulb yet? If so, that would definitely be something to consider. If you could get a hold of a catz zeta kit that would be nice too.

Those HIR bulbs look really cheap, and you wouldn't have a high beam since they are single filament. I'm not sure any quality ones exist in the H4 bulb type. The Catz could be a good option but you would need to use a beefier harness to run them since they are high wattage. I was under the impression the catz kits used a pair of ballasts too...

Most of the HIR bulbs on the internet are fake. In fact, the only real HIR bulbs were made by Toshiba, which are discontinued, and Phillips, both of which are only for 9011 and 9012 sockets.

first made by GE
then made by Toshiba
NOW made by Philips

only applicable for 9011 and 9012 bulb designations

Hella, Philips, Koito, Denso, GE, Stanley, Bosch, Osram, and I'm sure to be missing a few others. Not trying to be a smart ass but a car with as much body work as yours deserves a proper hid retrofit

They might use actual Cree brand LEDs but that's about the only good thing you can say about that "kit". That would do absolutely no good in a halogen reflector.

The bixenon solenoid is designed into and contained in the projector itself. It's not something that you install separately. the cutoff shield that creates the low beam pattern is attached to an electromagnetic mechanism (solenoid) which when triggered with +12v moves the shield down to allow more light to escape out of the projector, creating a high beam function. Many of the retrofits I do use bixenon projectors as 90s high beam reflectors leave a lot to be desired when paired with single xenons. You can wire it very simply like the above example where the halogen high beam supplements the bixenon high beam. The solenoid only needs to be grounded and have a +12v trigger to actuate so you can wire it a number of ways, the easiest being to splice it into and add a separate connector to the halogen high beam +12v. You can also use a wire splitter to plug into the factory harness and give you 2 plugs from the one 9006 connector. You can also adapt a "bixenon" relay harness designed to use with h4 systems to work.

Are the JDM high beams bulbs 9006? I can't seem to find the bulb type for the JDM high beam housing...again, thanks in advance.

The JDM headlights use either h1 or h3 bulbs for the high beam, unlike USDM. I forget which sorry, but I'd lean towards h1. I was assuming you have a usdm kouki and are working with the original body harness.
