s14 How much Dynamat?

Whether I use Dynamat or some other material, how much is typically needed?

I plan to cover the following areas:
Floorboard
Headliner
Dash(Underneath)
A & C Pillars
Doors (Skin and Inner Panel)
Trunk Lid
Trunk Flooring
Trunk Sides

I understand this will add some weight to the car but it can be lost in other places, and I'm not purely for performance anyways given it will be my daily driver. I'm sure a turbo KA will be more than adequate to compensate for the added gurth.

They should be able to tell you where you buy the dynomat at.

Otherwise.. start guessing. Bust out an FSM and get approximate dimensions, or get out a measuring tape.

No one here has done what you are doing and therefore can't really help you out.

Give yourself more than what you think you need. Chances are you will need the extra.

Also, there is another thread that was posted last week about dynamat. Search and you'll see some quite help-full responses.

I already searched but found little info... I may not use dynamat but possibly another similar item like from H/D. eBay kits are in the 50sq/ft to 100sq/ft variety and my friend wants to do his Grand Am as well so we may split the cost of a 100sq/ft in hopes it is enough.

My main focuses are the doors and trunk as a lot of noise vents from these, the floor and other areas are for my own comfort... the dash I may still due just to assist with quieting squeeks/rattles, the same in some patchy areas like the QTR panels.

I figured there would have been some audiophiles that have dynamatted their cars and could give me some ideas on how much certain areas took, I know very few (if any) will have gone to the trouble of covering the pillars and headliner, etc.

That's for damn sure. I have a system but I just don't find it worth it to sound deaden the whole car unless you are into SQ/SPL competitions. If it were me, I would do the trunk, and door panels and leave it at that. Check out www.caraudioforum.com for more information and possibly an accurate number of sq ft. needed to sound deaden a whole car.

Also, check out www.secondskinaudio.com Great product and it's cheaper than Dynamat.

i cut myself so much using ultra dynamatt. actually it wasnt dynamatt brand it was some company on ebay selling better stuff called Beaver Tail. thick aluminum foil over a 1/8" layer of sticky ass tar. it was incredibly heavy.

measure the length of ur car and the width...multiply those two numbers and that should give u a good idea of how much u need, i kno its not accurate but atleaset it gives u a ball park figure.. Cuz u're gonna be dealing with sq. ft. when u buy the Dynamat. but the 100sqft should be more than enough for u. good luck with that and snap some shots when u're done. Peace

my car has a lot of dynamat it use to have a really good system which was worth about 10Gs i took it out. sometimes i m conserned about the weight and i think about removing all the dynamat

Well I am going to reconsider the extent of use... my audio isnt rediculous but I'm building a carputer with navigation and an extensive MP3 collection on tap... the sound system will be simple so weight wont be too much but still sound nice.

10" sub, 6.75 comps in front, and 6.75 2-ways in the rear.... Two amps, MTX 2160 for the sub and MTX or Infinity 180-250w for the speakers. All factory sound wiring will be removed and new lines for power run from the batt to power/grnd buses in the dash and trunk.

I'm going to cover the trunk areas because there is a lot of bleed through when the pass-through from the rear seats are down. Also the rear has a very tinny sound, particularly when closing the trunk so I'm hoping that will give it a more solid feel. The doors are a must too as I've been told a lot of vibration can originate there with upgraded speakers.

We shall see, some of my plans are changing due to my will to spend money in other areas... like I wanted to go Kouki but I think that money would be better suited in suspension and engine work. :/

ding ding ding ding tell him what he won Bob. "the same stuff he could have bought at home depo or Loes for $3 a roll (1 roll could cover your entire vehicle inside and out on every layer twice. but this is the cheaper alternative to dynomat which is the same thing with a stupid markup.

Isn't dynomat some rediculous price ($50 per cubic foot.)
