SR Removing I/M Support Brakets - is it ok??

Is it ok to pull off the intake manifold support brackets under the manifold to make oil changes easier on an SR20DET?

I was trying to change my oil yesterday but i dont have a lift and i cant get a good grip on that stupid oil filter.

Thanks in advance.

dont those supports prevent the manifold/head/block from shaking and creating gasket leaks and or broken bolts?

maybe in theory, but people remove them without issues.

What is the big problem? Your hand should fit from the top between the alternator and support brace. If you still can't get it off, its either overtightened, or you have no muscles in your arm.

I leave them off every KA and SR I put in, never had an issue and makes starter/oil filter removal twice as easy, among other things.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I had a chance to remove this when I did the motor mount this weekend.

Just to be clear, is everybody talking about the triangular piece in the picture below? What about the two other small brackets? Do you just leave them?

And FYI, 1 and 2 are 12mm bolts. 3 is a 14mm bolt. You don't need a lift to remove them. Just use a good 6-point socket and ratchet set, PB Blaster, and maybe a breaker bar if you need it.

Thanks for the reply.

If anybody is struggling with the oil filter, consider switching to the K&N Performance Gold Oil Filter. You can put a 1" socket/wrench on it and use that to loosen the filter.

Or the next best thing is to find a filter wrench.
