Im in need of sum help on best ways to start off my 97 240, cause I cant get ahead of my friends 92 BONE stock Celica, bout halfcar length away...even worse is i have Apex Turbo N1 muffler wif 2.5 inch nonmandrel bent piping and Stillen Filter...
Wuts going on, sposedly 240 suppose to be ahead off the line rite = RWD? I used to rev 3000 then totally let go of the clutch (thats clutch dropping rite?) but now, I rev 2000 while holding the clutch halfway, and then let go to accel (clutch slipping?)...How do u ppl get good times especially good launches starts?? Did i mention his cars BONE Stock and makes broken noises?

Depends on what his car's model is. my wife has a bone stock 92 GT-S and it's much faster 0-60 then my 240SX. I have a muffler on mine too. So just practice your launches, my clutch slips just a little on launches, so I don't do much racing anymore, but driving both cars sometimes everyday, the Celica is faster.

I can't launch by droping the clutch. I'll either spin tires or my rpm's will drop down to like 500 and I lose time. I say rev to 3000 and slip the clutch as you rev up to 4000...it's hell on you clutch but oh well.

3k rpm launches is probably best, you might even be able to launch a bit higher. but don't completely just dump the clutch, that's reserved for those AWD guys. and i hate to tell you, but that exhuast probably isn't making more than 2hp for you if it's not mandrel bent.

i thought the N1 single was like a 3'' mandrel bent system. bah.......who knows.

From what I've been reading on the Celica, the GT and GT-S are both 135 hp engines, weighing in at about that of the 240sx. Granted, fwd should have less parasitic drivetrain loss, though how could that account for a '92 Celica being that much quicker? I think you oughta practice your launches

BTW, although rwd is ideal for launches, unless you are at crazy hp levels, it doesn't really matter. It only improves traction, typically not a problem on sub-150 hp cars

I had a '90 Celica ST, like 102 hp . 1.6 Liter.
GT and GTS are 2.2 Liter (I think) for 135-140hp.

The only explaination for your loss is your fried has an All-Trac Turbo You'd probably notice though... They look a .bit different (hood scoop and side vents).

2.0 3SGTE... mmm... 200 hp, 4wd, Nice cars but very hard to find.

Good Luck Next Time.

BTW: I love that front end . But where are your side markers and turn signals?

maybe the celica has lower gearing so say hes running though to 4th gear when you're just hitting 3rd.... he'd in effect have more power to the ground than you even if he has less at the flywheel.

Yeah, that's the strut bar all right, it looks really nice, and it's really beefy. Breeze to put in... needed a bit of wd-40 on the bolts though to free 'em. I'll put up a pic when I get it on the web.
