I was driving down the road at about 40mph and down shifted to third to pass and heard a loud pop/boom noise and thought something on my suspension broke.  I look under the car and it is leaking fluid.  inspect a little closer and i see a three inche long slit in my top radiator hose, as if someone cut it w/ a knife.  I went to autozone and got a replacement hose installed it and here is were i might have gone wrong.

I then poured 1/4 of a gallon of water into the coolant reservior ( i thought it would suck it down, but it just stayed in the res?) then i opened the radiator cap and started pouring another 1/4 gallon, then had a friend start it up while i poured the rest in.  I only had a gallon of water so that is all it got.  At the end of pouring steam and spurts of water would jump out the cap, so i told my friend to turn her off.  He did then i put the cap back on.  I then drove her home nice and easy to see if it would overheat, but it didn't.

Hopefully someone can tell me if i did anything wrong, or if i did it right.  The reason i ask is b/c i have heard of car overheating b/c of a air bubble in the cooling system or something like that and i don't want that too happen.  Thanks alot,
-zac
