power window question....

hey guys, my driverside power window switch doesn't seem to work. is this a common problem on s14's??? cuz i just bought a new but used switch adn it still doesn't work. is it the switch or the wiring or what?? but when i move the switch up and down i can hear a ticking noise but nothing happens. i know the regulator and the whole window assembly works cuz i can roll up and down the window if i connect the wire from the inside the door to a battery it works. so basically my question is it the switch or the wiring?

1. Yes, common problem.
2. It could be the motor itself or the amplifier.
3. Search.
