Your only options are to swap back to a ka. Or not go to state ref, pay the fine AND get a point on your license because of so. Then hope you don't get caught again, because too many times and your car will be impounded.

dont sell and dont go see a ref.. swaping in a KA is also out of a question as its just a waist of time cause i'm sure you'll want to put your motor back in after.. and that KA has to be installed and wired to perfection! they will break out a helms manual and some refs will go over every single vacuum line as per manual.. i'm sure you may forget some of them if you decide to go this route.. something is bound to be missing (so my advice, forget about it with the amount of time and money this will take.) for future reference (not saying your car is flashy) but even if it is remotely.. try to tone it down.. try to quiet the muff down, stock looking can, body mods and etc.. you know what i mean.. now about your ref ticket.. transfer your title to your friends name date it like 10 days before you got the ticket, bill of sale etc.. go see a judge and just say car was already sold and you couldnt fix it in time.. he'll prolly waive the muffler ticket and fine you about $500 for modified emissions/fuel (the ref part).. plus your transfer fee that you did on your own.. prolly $50 bucks alltogether and you're done.. transfer back to your name.. i know it may sounds complicated but its really easy.. cost money of course thats why watch it next time and keep the ride low key if you can.. just my .02 cents.. it works i've done it twice..

I'm assuming he showed the cops registration and insurance. Which was in his name.

And the state can check to see when and who the vehicle is registered to.

Sounds pathetic.

The vehicle is still illegal.

The law isn't dumb.

your opinion is appreicated but as i stated before it works just fine and i'm just trying to help the kid out.. vehicle is sold according to the date of the BILL OF SALE, a written agreement between seller and buyer.. when that vehicle is transfered absoultely makes no difference.. buyer simply didnt pick up the car as he owed a small balance.. same thing happened to me twice! btw, courts are only after your money they hardly give a flying about anything else.. i just gave advice.. i'm not forcing anyone here to go for it.. just a reasonable alternative.. as far as being illegal.. please spare us all the BS.. taking your front license plate is illegal not to mention anything else.. i'm sure everyone is well aware of it.. kid asked for advice and thats what i gave.

sounds good, but what happens if i get pulled over again? and the reason i got pulled over wasnt because my exhaust was loud, its actually pretty quiet, the reason i got pulled over according to the officer: :" you were the last one out of the gas station."

no probs on the advice, anytime.. bottom line cops in CA are well... (i'm sure we all know the answer) if you get popped again just do the same thing.. its quick and easy and thats how i handled mine. You're welcome to go and swap a KA put it all back to stock or what not.. then swap the RB back in.. you can get popped again on the way back home.. no guarantee whichever route you choose!.. but this way you at least save yourself the time of installing a motor twice each time!

so the fact that i transfered the title doesnt go on some sort of record? also my buddy told me that id be able to register the car as non op, then go to court, tell the judge i registered it non op, and re-register(illigally).

i'm pretty sure that option will work as well.. sounds very interesting.. the judge will like that better i think as he'll see you gave up on it and did non-op and came to see his highness to pay!

but if that doesnt go through, you can always do what i did.. it goes on DMV record but court isnt going to check.. because when you go you will have a copy of the bill of sale with you and copy or registration (you say you got it from a new owner) either way not to worry looks like ur going to handle it, and next time be a hell of a lot more cautious.. (cruises are always a bad idea) i know they are fun but cops always tend to fugg it up for everyone..

^not a laughing matter.

Becouse of the new rules its a huge problem. Since they stoped the full payment of reff tickets we are all now screwed.

You need to do extensive research if you think you can go around this. Judges arnt stupid.

man they stopped full payment? that sucks. Heck I didn't even know that they give you a point if you pay the fine. My advice to you is to swap the ka back then get a stockish looking exhaust and one of those Y cutouts on your downpipe.

my question to you guys is... how many of you are actually speaking from experience?

When I went in for illegal smog device they did a quick run through and then smog and I was done

hmmm this is very interesting. i read on another thread that you can't just simply transfer the title and hope it'll go away. the other option of not going to see a ref was not possible either. im confused....
