Microtech LT10s, S13 SR20DET, Intake Air Temp Sensor

Hey guys hows it going!

wow, its been a while since I post on zilvia...
but I've been busy swapping an S13 SR20 into my A31 cefiro.

well right now im on the wiring stage (final stage before starting up).

I recently purchased Microtech LT10s (Australian standalone) for my s13 sr20.
Right now im doing the wirings.
I realized that theres an Intake Air Temp Sensor wire, but because I bought my sr20 as an engine+tranny set only, it did not come with the stock Intake Air Temp sensor.

How do I go by this?
I heard AC delco air temp sensor can be used as a substitude, but there's no info on the web on its part no or anything so im stoked.
Is it a must to have the intake air temp sensor wired?

According to what I know about MAP sensors, it needs intake air temp to run MAF-less.

btw, Purchased this LT10s from my friend and he did not wire the intake air temp sensor, his SR20 looked like it ran fine.
But I just want to make sure.

Thanks for the help guys.

short answer - call Microtech.

If it's a true standalone, and set up to run with IAT (also called intake air density, because that's what you're acutally using it to measure)/MAP sensors, then you'll DEFINITELY need one. If it can use a MAFS, it would help but is not required, because the MAFS attempts to get an "absolute" air measurement (doesnt need density to compute total amount of air).

The bad part about using an AC Delco/generic sensor is that it may work fine, or it may be off - I know AEM and Apexi have tables for what voltage their sensors put out given certain conditions, and they are accurate to the HUNDREDTH of a volt. Just because the Microtech calls for a 5V sensor (for instance) doesn't mean any 5V IAT sensor puts out the same voltage at the same densities.

I would put some energy into finding the correct sensor, and you generally put the MAP and IAT sensors next to each other so they're metering the same temperature air. Good luck!

Ah thanks for the advice, man.
Im guessing SR20DET IAT would be the same with FF SR20DE IAT.
They sell Nissan serena (ff sr20de) officially down here.
I'm gonna try to order that from a local nissan dealer next week.

I havent called microtech yet, prolly tommorrow or monday since they're located in australia and im gonna have to make an international call for that.
I just wanna get as much info on this prior to calling them.

Any other experience on this or advice will be much appretiated.

Ok after countless searching on the web.. I finally found the answer to my own question.

For all soon to be microtech users out there (goes for LT8, LT10, or LT12)
you MUST have the air temperature sensor wired.

Use this sensor
