Engine Questions

Hey guys I have a stock KA. I think that the timing chain guide is what is causing the rattle in the engine. After much searching through the site I am almost certain, but was looking for some extra assurance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trlErhAYvsg That is a link for the video where you can listen to the engine idling after being warmed up. Also the car seems to struggle a little bit from 1k-4krpms, after that it takes off. Its almost like it is missing cause it will be going strong then hesitate and pick back up (b/t 1k-3k rpms). Any ideas? Thanks guys.

Take the guides out, then come back and discuss any further issues.

Hey Ryan

As far as your timing chain goes, search around on here for the steps to remove your timing chain guides (I think I have a link in my sig). the top guide is really easy but it probably won't solve your noise... You'll most likely have to take off part of the face of the motor to get to the other guide.

And the hesitation from 1-4k I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a bad knock sensor harness which threw a code 34. Any time the computer throws this code, it pulls timing and the engine feels sluggish as hell. I would advise you pull the codes off your ECU to see what it has to say
