Water Pump/Thermostat Liquid Gasket or premade Gasket?

I'm in the middle to replacing my WP and Thermo.
The FSM says Liquid Gasket.
But the WP and Thermo I bought both came with
shaped gaskets.

Do I go with :
1. Liquid gasket only
2. Liquid gasket and shaped gasket, applying to both sides of gasket
3. Shaped Gasket only
4. Shaped gasket with gasket sealer
5. or all of the above.

Also, for the thermostat, I know i have to use the gasket for the thermostat housing, but should i also use the liquid gasket on the rim of the thermostat where the thermostat seats in the housing?

Thanks.

I think I'm going to go with just the liquid gasket.
But i'm still not sure if I need to place liquid gasket on the rim
of the thermostat including the thermo housing.

Any suggestion?

Just use the paper shit gasket or silicone RTV, not both. And for the thermo housing just place RTV where the housing bolts over the t-stat.

paper gasket, paper gasket!

provides a buffer for the metals to "clamp" down onto.
my last water pump & thermostat change was done with liquid gasket, and that shit started leaking after a while. not to say that RTV isn't good (as in my case it might have been incorrectly applied) but the paper gasket is easier.

plus you don't run the risk of getting a teeny bit of liquid gasket into your coolant lines.

RTV but I'd use the gasket since you already have it.

^^What he said... i didn't get a gasket with my water pump, BUT i used high quality shit... loctite sealant and its good up to 400*C. I had a gasket on my thermo but i had to take it off, and it was already crushed so we put the same stuff on there too. Been driving for 2 weeks leak free.

i usually use the paper gasket and a little RTV on both sides to hold it in place and keep the seal perfect.

Dont use too much though, as you dont want it seeping into the h2o.
