Need help deciding on tire size

First off, my car is a '90 240sx hatch. I just picked up some a-tech competition wheels. 17x8 +22 front and 17x9 +27 rear. I'm looking to get as wide of a tire withOUT the balloon effect. I dont know if fender clearance will be an issue or not with this size. My original thoughts are 225/45/17 for the front and 255/40/17 for the rear...but I would like to get a lil more rubber up front for better traction in the turn and maybe even a lil more in the rear. Let me hear some suggestion and maybe even pics of how certain tire sizes fit on wheels about my size. Anything would be helpful

I was never able to run larger than 255 rears & 225 fronts between 3 different sets of wheels, without having fender modifications. My last combo was 255-40-18 rear on 18x10.5" wheel & 225-40-18 front on 18x9.5" wheel. I also ran 255-40-17 rear on 17x9"/215-45-17 on 17x8" front and 255-40-17 rear on 17x8"/215-40-17 on 17x7" front. You MIGHT be able to squeeze a 235 in front, but it's going to be pretty tight on stock fenders. If you want bigger than 255 rears, your going to need your fenders rolled or cut & overfenders installed, otherwise you'll probably have clearance problems on the fender lip (unless you have the rear end raised up HIGH!).

Care to expand on that? That size can fit under rolled rears and has been used by people faster, smarter, and better than you.

And I sure as hell wasn't stupid enough to run a 17x7 on any end of my car.

you guys can be some real assholes you know that? lol. I ask a simple question on here b/c I know a lot of you have experience with many different tires/wheel sizes....I know my lil wheels are as "player" as some or your shit and I'm sorry I can't be as cool as you guys.

harlock and hypertek are the only ones that have contributed to this thread...all you others just have too much free time on your hands.

what do you guys think about 215/45/17 for the front and 245/40/17 for the rear?

harlock?? any pics of your wheel/tire combos?

400whp makes it kinda easy to get the tires loose buddy, so until you know anything about me or my car, shut your mouth

fuck that.

heres what u need

235 40 17 front
255 40 17 rear.

dun. will be proportionate and very functional. i personally dont like too skiny of a tire in the front and 235 is just right. im ditching 225 45 as we speak. that size is gross. drifting on a 215 40 sucks. its like drifting on drag skinnies lol. just being silly

225 and 245. They'll fit perfect and you'll have that balloon effect I guess.

right, i'm just saying that b/c the other 'ballers' on here that believe if you dont run a negative offset your wheels suck... If you guys dont feel like helping and already know everything then what is your purpose on these forums?

and now they go and hurt me by giving me bad rep....uh oh

Never said I was king of the streets...i'm just giving you facts of why I wanted a wider tire.
