Anybody with a Zune?
Doing a little search for an ideal electronic gift for my sister-in-law..and I happen to run across the Zune.
I forgot when this came out, but I'm guessing its been out for awhile. It looks pretty nice vs. the iPod and might be a good contender (even though most people hate M$). I've read some reviews on various sites....but out of curiosity...does anyone on this forum have a Zune?

well, tell you the truth It looks decent, maybe this competion will make both a better product..... I know my ipod had mad problems... maybe this player will be a little better bug free. Ill see what happens, and soon Ill pick one up.. I miss walking around with my fav tunez!

I did like the Zune a lot at tht BestBuy or wherever I was, but I don't want to use Virtual PC to use it. If they can get native OSX or Linux syncing for it, I'd consider one... I also think it's hilarious that they don't even have Zune support for Vista, it's like wtf you can't even support your own operating system?!? It's a little bit less intuitive than the iPod, but the main draw for me is the bigger screen. I'll probably wait and see what, if anything, Apple releases...

I'm going to get a zune on Friday. The screen is larger and automatically switches to widescreen so thats always a bonus. The player itself is a little bigger and thicker, but not that noticeable. The sound quality is much better than my Ipod mini. The Zune also accepts various file types unlike the Ipod. So you can put more videos and clips on the zune without having to buy them from Itunes. From what I can tell the biggest gripe people have is that the music store for the Zune isn't that great right now. They dont even have a video store at this time. I don't buy my music through Itunes so it doesnt bother me. I'll update you guys once I have a chance to play with it more in depth.

You don't have to buy movies from iTunes FYI... Zune has same codec support as the iPod, excluding wmv, but that isn't much to brag about... I'm just waiting to see if Microsoft isn't going to be gay just once, and decide to support other operating systems. I'm not holding my breath though...

I got a white zune today and I love it. The screen is huge compared to the Ipod video. I put all my music on it and have even put a few videos on it. I used a program to convert some dvd's to .wma and they look great on the zune. I can't really compare it with the Ipod video cause I haven't used one of those. I do have an ipod mini though and I think that the zune has much better sound quality. Just my 2 cents.

Well let me say this.
1. The Zune is a rerelease of failed Toshiba product that came out a few years ago. 2. If you think it sounds better than your Ipod which I find hard to believe maybe your Ipod earbuds are fried. On top of that are you putting your files into your Ipod as AAC? MP3 or just straight digital. I only put files in my Ipod either uncompressed straight WAV or AAC. MP3's sound like utter crap. I am a trained audio engineer and the amount of audio smear present in MP3's is horrendous. Buy your Zune your going to be buying a failed product that is a Ipod 4 years ago. Seriously though if you think it sounds better you might need better ear buds or speakers for you Ipod. I have a Mini and it sounds great. In fact thats why I got an Ipod because they do sound good. P.S. No I would not even think of buying a Zune it makes no sense. Its just Microsoft under Steve Ballmer trying to conquer markets they have no business being in in the first place. Microsoft is first and foremost a Software company at least with the XBOX they are coming from the point of being able to produce Video Games. With the Zune its like WTF? Your not a Hardware company your core is software. Stick with what you know instead of trying to copy someone that did something original based on their ability in Hardware and audio which was already well established. Thats just an opinion from me and several professional stock market investors I know.

turns out one of the partners in the company got one he didn't need and remembered I've done a few favors for him in the past...  Then I install the software on my pc and it crashed....  |

I have the software on my laptop to link up to my xbox 360, works fine for me.
I also am not a fan of any major brand players. ipods are big, i can get a 3/4in cube player if i want small, or a bigger screen if i want movies. so all the players don't have a nitch to me. i don't like things that do alost of things crappily. (ipod, zune, PSP or otherwise.) on another note my xbox plays more media than my friends freshly updated mac, so just think about that when you want to belive a company's hype. |

drift freaq: The files on my ipod are AAC and with the zune I use WMA. I used the same set of Philips Noise cancelling headphones when listening to both of the players. Just out of curiosity have you listened to a zune? If you haven't I would encourage you to listen just so that you can give some professional insight. I think that microsoft getting involved as competition for the Ipod is a good thing. It will give apple the drive to create new and better things. So all in all the consumer will benefit from the competition.

quiick help and info:
$240 can connect to tv 20gb 3 styles expensive accessories 99-300 for connections etc kinda big in size though sounds ok sold pretty good where i work at good contender for ipod released same week as ps3 i think ps the white 1 looks pretty nice
