please explain in detail to all of us what you get/do for 260 for the school? Interested...thanks.
Also, what is this track like? Any pictures or videos? Are there walls everywhere or is it somewhat car/beginner friendly? Last edited by gotta240; 01-05-2007 at 01:58 AM.. |

If you sign up in a beginner class, the track is quite beginner friendly, going off track isn't TOO bad in most areas, I had a car about 1" off the ground and went off at about 20mph on the back bank and merely scraped the tranny, no serious damage.
Great track, no insane speeds and very very good variety of corners, dual apexs and banks. Only time you're going fast enough to hurt yourself is on the front straight to the hard right, if you know it's coming and brake early you're fine. I wish my car didn't handle like balls, 100$ is INSANE cheap for a track day at SOW. |

thanks! Are there walls everywhere, or mostly gravel pits, etc?
thanks for the reply! I'll be there at least 1 day! oh- so no drifting is allowed on EITHER of the days??? Do you get kicked out if you do drift? Also, it says goodyear tire service available.....do they mount/dismount??? if so, how much? thanks and sorry for all the questions! |

No walls to worry about, except on front straight, and you'd have to like, go into a coma to hit them.
All dirt around the course, on the turns entering the front straight, out of bounds is all asphalt. Drifting is not allowed on track at events like these, you'll get black flagged the first time if it looks intentional, and after 2 or 3 times you're out for good. Correct me if I'm wrong but thats the way it's been at SOWS whenever I go. |

How about the back straight? That was was pretty fast if I recall correctly.. But I've only driven there once. But I must agree that it is very beginner friendly.

Oh lol almost forgot about that, yes, after the big bank there's a back straight, to a chicane, it's moderately fast, be really careful in the chicane because right after it drops altitude and turns left I believe. Don't go into it real hot thinking youre gonna smoke everyone by going straight through the chicane, because with the altitude drop and hard turn, most people end up slamming the brakes and understeering off into the dirt.
Not that you'll be hurt or anything, but you'll be red in the face embarassed. Again, if you sign up for a beginner class, or they have warm up laps in the morning, you'll see all of this and know what to look out for. Just remember, only go as fast as YOU feel comfortable. Try and find someone in the run group that has a similar car / power and has been there before, and line up behind them. You'll learn a LOT by watching their line. First time at SOWS I got lumped in Advancedd (WTF) in a stock KA with coilovers and st115 tires. Other guys in the class had Porsches, Corvettes, Evos. Well, I was just sweating bullets and nervous because I was holding up these guys the whole time, eventually I was watching my mirrors so much to let them by, I went too fast into the big bank and understeered off course (where I hit my tranny). Lesson learned, now I never look in my mirrors. ![]() |

Haven't driven HTM. Unfortunately no, I can't really grip/race my car anymore, it's slammed now and the suspension geometry is basically CRAP. Pretty much drift only until I can get a good alignment with some good multi-link. I'd love to go, 100$ is a so cheap!

I have to ask: If no suit is required, why be so picky about having to wear pants? I would think that if you're going to get hurt while driving on the track, it's not going to make any difference whether you're wearing a pair of Dockers or a pair of shorts.
Gloves and a suit I understand. Gloves and slacks I do not. |

TCRA do recommend you to wear long sleeves and long pants just incase anything happened at track your car caught on fire etc, if you have fire suit go wear it for ppl that can't afford it long pants and t-shirts is ok, as why gloves: is to prevent sweaty palms for beginners. any driving gloves only cost you $20 nomex for $50.
event is not full, you guys gonna have ALOT OF seat time i guarantee!!! Last edited by SYM; 01-09-2007 at 05:41 PM.. |

TCRA will have RACE group, intermediate group, and beginner group for both days, for this $100 deal is only for open track, they'll put you in beginner or intermediate for 30 mins a section, you can come back to the pit any time, if you want instruction you can always ask their instrutors when they have time to guide you the line, or show you the breakin point etc.
