I was under my hood yesterday looking for free mods, and I had always overlooked the EGR until then. I disabled it (capped it off) and it made the car run phenomenally... mainly at idle (my idle is a little erratic). Would anyone be interested in a VFAQ of how to do this? It only costs about $2 of parts (if you don't already have them)

I considered the same thing myself: Take off all this smog crap and it is bound to run better. Thing is, I'm not sure what that would do to my ECU. Doesn't it monitor any of the smog systems? (89 240)

I removed my EGR valve completely , made a block off plate for the intake manifold and a plug for the exhaust manifold wich DID improve my performance because the valve was stuck open slightly. I also removed my AIR pump system cuz I didn't like it! Neither will cause you any ECU problems on an 89. Of course this will cause your emmision levels to increase so if you live in  an area that has emission testing i wouldn't recommend it..........

bypassing the EGR does nothing besides raise temperatures inside the combustion chamber. unless your egr is busted and making your car run like doo doo.
