An engine harness connector missing
I'm finishing up my KA E to KA DE swap. I tried to fire up the engine and it is cranking but is not firing up.
I was going through engine harness connections and found that the connector encircled in red is left alone. I was able to find corresponding engine room harness connectors for E202 E203 E206 but the engine room harness connector for E204 is no where to be found. The chassis and engine room harness is automatic 89 while the KADE and its engine harness is from manual 93. Do you know if E204 left unconnected is fine with combination of 89 auto and 93 manual? ![]() Last edited by jafero; 02-06-2007 at 09:52 PM.. |

That area of the engine harness is somewhat messy and not very well documented. I traced out mine as well, and found that it was not necessary for my car. Others have reported that there may be some unused harness in the battery box area.
Due to differences in vehicle options, I recommend you follow the diagram in the FSM carefully. Go to the foldout section in the back and trace out the circuit. Not all cars use the same harness, auto/manual/dohc, etc. I don't know if that's causing your no start because I forgot which harnesses need not be hooked up in that area. I would say check spark and fuel before anything else. |

I'm assuming you're doing a 5spd. swap at the same time... did you bypass the starter interlock? To do it just find the plug that comes out from the bottom of the engine bay fusebox (Wires are Black with yellow stripe and white) and connect the 2 wires together. If you haven't done this; that's probably why it's not starting.

![]() But to be clear; I was talking about the starter interlock for the automatic transmission... not the clutch interlock. However, in either case I'm wrong because if the starter interlock wasn't bypassed, the engine wouldn't even crank. Also, to the thread starter; like g6civcx said in his first post, there are some connectors on the harnesses that aren't used at all around the battery and fuse box when you do a 5spd. swap. I have at least 3 on mine. IIRC that is one of them.

Thanks a lot guys, 5 speed swap was done by previous owner.
mrclark1> I do have 3 connectors on the engine room harness side that is not used. I'm confused because E204 is not mated to any of those 3 connectors according to FSM. For engine not firing up, I checked fuel and spark plugs. Both are working. I hear injectors clicking but I will ask a friend tomorrow to make sure. This may sound stupid. Will engine fire up without two big vacuum hoses: one from intake pipe to engine valve cover and another from intake to SCV control and EGR control (both indicated in red in the picture below)? I just found that these two big vacuum hoses are cracked beyond repair. ![]() |

A vacuum leak shouldn't cause a car to not start unless it was huge.
are the grounds hooked up? when i did my swap i painted the engine bay but didnt get the grounds clean enough, the car cranked but didnt start. I cleaned up all the grounds again and that solved the problem.

mach5camaross> thanks for your idea. I did hook all the grounds but had to relocate some to other bolts than the ones specified in the FSM. I will check them again if any of the grounds are not grounded properly.
