E-brake problem
Tried search found nothing. I'm a car beginner coming from doing computers. Well its too cold here right now to work on it but i just want to see what i'm looking at.
The e-brake handle has like nothing in it, it pulls but doesn't stay up, i also hear no clicks of it pulling or anything, the e-brake button is also pressed in the whole time. I can make the e-brake handle work but its really weird. I have to pull the button out at the same time as a i pull the e-brake. Sometimes it works partially so i have to do it over and over until i hear the hard clicks so the car won't roll down. What is the problem? Sorry for asking such a newb question, its so cold here i cannot work on it but i want to see what i'm looking at here. Thanks |

Someone popped out the tabs that hold the spring against the button to keep tension on it, buy a drift knob or deal with it....
Better yet, go use the fucking thing like it should be, just pull it at 45, clocked sideways...you'll see why people do that when you try to counter-steer with the quickness and you'll be damn glad your e-brake isn't stuck up. |

Like sidewayzzz said, there are two little tabs under the ebrake handle cover, if you slide the cover off, then use a screw driver to slide the spring up towards the end of the handle and then bend the tabs in under the spring, you'll have yourself a locking e brake. However, if your spring is gone, like you said, you just have to pull the button out when ever you set your ebrake. I was to cheap to but a drift button so I opened the tabs up. I also slid my ebrake cover down a bit so I could reach the button when I need to park.

i would just pull off the boot and check those tabs first, and if that is the case, then just either buy or make a drift button, since it would probably end up being cheaper than going to a junkyard

Sounds like someone bent the tabs so the spring wouldn't push the button back.
That way they could,"drift". Look around on ebay for a, "drift knob or drift button". That'll make it easier than trying to use your fingernails to pull the button out.

well i looked up the "drift button" on ebay, and thats what the car has, it covers the oem button which is already pressed down. i bought the car modded so im guessin this is normal.
but question is how does it make drifting more easier or effecient if u have to pull the drift button out to make it click? sounds dangerous to me ;x |

you can get em at kragen or autozone or something. they are dirt cheap. once you put it on the e-brake, it fucks up the little spring and you'll always have to have it on there.

You don't always have to do anything. If you want to fix it you bring the spring back up and ben the tabs back to the original location.
