s14 Question about S14 ECU's

I'm still a newbie with cars in general, so I wanted to ask you guys about the S14 ECU's. Anyway, I brought my 95 S14 into a shop because it was starting. The technician there told me that my ECU (or ECM) is the cause of it. So, I bought another ECU from someone else. It came from a 95 5 speed car but the sticker on the ECU was different from mine. The sticker on my ECU says 3C. I forgot what the sticker on the other ECU is (I think it's H something, I'll double check on that).

Anyway, since the new ECU came from a 95 and it was 5 speed, I thought it would work on my car. The technician then calls me the next day saying that I would need to get an exact ECU 'cause the car still doesn't start.

So, my question is was the technician correct and I need to get the same exact one? Or any 95 5 speed ECU should work in my car?

Thanks for any help and sorry for the long post.

Well if the ECU was ever in your car and it started, I doubt that is the problem. ECUs very rarely go bad (Ive never heard of that).

What was your intial problem?

The problem started when I was just driving on the road and went through some potholes which rattled my car (especially having a coilover). My engine just died but my radio was still on and could operate everything else (lights, windows, power door lock, etc...)

Took my car home and found out that I wasn't getting any sparks so I changed my whole distributor and also changed my spark plugs. Car still wouldn't start but it would crank constantly. Also, found out that there was no fuel, so changed my fuel pump but still wasn't getting any fuel.

So, basically right now I have no spark and no fuel going in.

that is the chart for the ECUs. Wierd thing is that it says OBD2 for all of 95. From what I heard, most early 95 models was OBD1 and nissan changed to OBD2 in the later models. If that is true, then you might have bought one for a OBD2 model.

Thanks for the info, it helps a lot. Now I can finally see what my original ECU is.
