![]() I was wondering if someone could let me know a few things about building a car. I am going to buy an SR20 and throw it in a 240...what red tape do I have to go through in order for it to be legit with California emissions? I am also wondering if it would be more beneficial to buy the 300ZX TT motor instead of an SR20…I haven't identified a vehicle I want to work with yet but its a toss up between a 94-98 240 and a 91-96 Z car. Any suggestions?

Get the z. It will be an absolute nightmare to work on and is a total pig of a car, but it will be legal for the most part. 240 w/sr=never legal. 5-0 hunt them down like f just because of them being 240's. If you think you can afford/handle a 300zx, get it.
p.s. search you wanker.

Search and post in the regional section next time. This is staying open so that your second question can be addressed. If it get out of hand I am locking it.

Let's see, to be legit with California emissions, you'll need to hang on to your old KA and then swap it back in every two years or whenever you get pulled over and sent to a BAR referee. The only other way to have an SR20 in a 240sx legally is to register the car as Non-operational or as an off highway vehicle (OHV), but then you can't drive the think on public streets, only at the racetrack.
Dare to be different, build a Z! Both are dated chassis', but it's been a while since I've seen a nice Z. With some work, they can hit close to 1000 hp.. well with a lot of work, but you get the idea. |

on stock turbos a z can make 400whp though...put sr20 t25's on it and you can make 500whp. s14t28's=600whp!!!! Thats with doing almost nothing else to the dang thing. Those motors are brick houses too if done right. The initial cost is more, maintainence costs more, but to make a 240 preform near one is a lot harder.

there is a nice write up in a thread...check it out..it has to do with propane and about 4 hundred to 6 hundred dollars and 2 to 3 days with your car in someone else's hands.

But you wont pass a visual and if you get pulled over you're still f'd. An SR can pass a sniffer rather easily. Its the visual that bites it in the ass.
