s14 Shaving JDM kouki front bumper license plate holder? larger IC cutout?

Has anyone done this or attempted it? Every JDM front bumper I see has that ugly license plate holder... here in AZ we dont need the front plate.

Is the bumper thick enough to just sand that part off and fill in the holes? Maybe reinforce it with some fiberglass from the back?

I was also thinking about making the middle hole slightly bigger for a FMIC by cutting it slightly kinda like what this guy did with the usdm front bumper>

I think it would look pretty sick with a gracer or maybe even cwest lip and usdm kouki sides... Has anyone seen this combo? I cant seem to find it. Are the usdm sides low enough for the gracer lip or cwest lip?

Dont want the OEM lip for the jdm bumper because it is waaaaay overpriced and hardly makes a difference

yeah you can cut out the license plate portion to make a replica hotroad front bumper (and a few other brands look like this).

if its the OEM jdm bumper then yes it can handle it since it is urethane we are talking about.

look thru the pic's thread and you will see what a few members have done to their oem 180 kouki front bumpers (three slotted and one large slot version)

anything is possible with a good body shop.

I plan on doing this myself since Im not rich. And I dont want to make a slot like the 180sx guys do. Just want to make the hole slightly larger but round it off like the pic above. The two holes where the turn signals are would stay the same.

I just wanted to make sure the urethane was thick enough to handle the shaving of the raised license plate part. Someone with a jdm bumper told me it wouldnt work.

Still wondering about if those kouki sides would look right with the gracer front lip. The zenki jdm sides look like they arent low enough and I just dont like them.

It's a USDM bumper, it's not from the Japanese Domestic Market. You can shave it off but its a lot of work and you better be good at it, maybe a little rienforcement needed.
The Zenki and Kouki have the same side skirts but it does depend if you actually mean JDM... the car in your picture has USDM sides. It would look okay with an aftermarket front

I just wouldnt do it myself honestly unless I was good at it thats my own point I have to say about that.

Dont want to do something and then hate yourself and see a bunch of $$$ go down the drain, unless you do have experience repairing or modifying urethane and fiberglass aero parts.

Good luck

I dont see how it would be a lot of work... just take a belt sander or electric sander to it for a while then hand sand it till its smooth with the rest of the bumper. Then fill in the holes with flexible fiberglass. I havent seen anyone else do this so I was just wondering if it is within reason or if it would be too thin..

I might not actually try cutting the bumper to make the hole larger. I would like to to be different and I think it would look pretty good but THAT seems like it would be a lot of work.

sexay for a usdm bumper... usually not a fan of them.

Saw kouki-kat's car had that shit shaved. I hope the kouki sides/jdm rear will look ok with that lip... the zenki ones just look funny to me.

US= United States.
JDM= Japan.

We all know this, your point makes no sense.

Zenki and Kouki do NOT have the same side skirts at all, and what that has to do with shaving the front bumper we may never know. We also won't know why you felt the need to point it out either.

^haha was gona point that out... but forgot when I was making the post.

^here is the C west copy I found of mmb's car... looks pretty good besides the fact the sides of the lip do not extend all the way up to the turn signals like the greddy lip does. There is just that line that looks pretty ugly. Id be tempted to mold it but Id be worried of it cracking.

Most likely just go with the trust lip when the time comes.

Well for one his picture showed a modified US bumper, therefore I was making sure he meant JDM and wasn't just mistaken

And secondly, again picture showed US sideskirts so I was making sure, and in his post that you obviously didn't read he asked if an aftermarket front lip would look good with the oem sideskirts.

You may want to be more literate before you bag on people...

Yeah thanks for contributing but you should have at least made the hole even with the original hole and not so high up. Im sure it can be done nicely but I dont think im the one to do it... so I think im not going to try cutting my bumper up.

You might want to quit eating penis before posting period.

"cutting it slightly kinda like what this guy did with the usdm front bumper", taken directly from the top post. Literacy seems to have escaped you, not I.
