Everytime my 240 sits over night, and I start it in the morning it makes a bit of a slight squeaky - chatter... it doesn't really sound like metal... nor a belt... anyone ever heard this noise on a KA24DE? I'd be interested to know...

mine does that too. At first i thougth fan belts must be bad so i changed them. That really helped but now it starts for about 2 seconds and then the chatter stops. Might be a loose belt, i don't know.

The noise mine makes is like less than half of a second... it's just really quick. And it only happens if the car sits for abour 12 hours. Weird... anyone else know anything about it?

I've got a 90 with the SOHC, and mine does the ame thing, but I'm pretty sure thata it is the timing chain, on the 12V SOHC's I have heard many complaints of this, and most the time it is the damned timing chain.

It could be the water pump. If the bearings in the pully are goin bad, when you first start it, it will make a whining noise for about a second or less.
But this is usually only on cold startups. |

Well, if nothing else you could just replace the belt or (even cheaper) buy some belt dressing or (if you are REALLY hurtin for coin) just rub some soap on it and see if that solves the problem. I was just basing my waterpump reply on a past experience with my old car. Replaced the water pump and it ran like a raped date.

synthetic has higher resistence to viscosity breakdown . which means two things . Longer oil life and less likely to break down under stress and high heat . Synthetic oil is your friend. IMHO MObil 1 here. Used to use Amsoil(the best) but its hard to get . Not a lot of stores carry it and you have to seek out the dealers. Its also pretty expensive . Mobil 1 is a close second IMHO and well worth it especially when I can get it at Costco for 3.66 per quart

I'm lucky. My parents have a wholesale hookup for Amsoil. I have to visit them every now and then to pick up a case. I think they just enjoy seeing me..
