s2000 240 hp ~150 lbs torque
gti 337 180hp 174 lbs torque

s2000 power band starts at 7000 rpm (vtec kicks in)
gti on the other hand powerband starts at 1700 rpms-5600rpm

i dont really want a gti. it just showed me how cool turbo really is. and besides i want alot of cars but after i test drive it i can stick to cars i really like (like the Z car). i mean i like the new tiburon...but i'd never buy one. i'd like to try it once though to see how it feels

EDIT: BTW the 337 gti is a limited edition modded off the ass VW (1500 in the us)

The 337 has 180hp and similar amount of torque. With an ECU upgrade (~$550) you can have ~ 210hp and ~230tq at the flywheel.
not to mention the car comes with 18" BBS rims from the factory! It feels a lot faster than the S2k because it's got so much f-ing torque, but an S2k should still win in most aspects.

Ummm it doesn't kick in. It works at all rpms. It's a mechanism that operates on the cams/rocker arms... so there is no such thing as kicking in. Unless it's done from the moment you start up the car...

who cares where vtec "kicks in/engages" what have you.........the only thing that matters is the powerband between shift points. it makes no difference that ours is only good from 4-6, when s2k is good from 7-9. when you're on track, you're gonna be in this rev range the entire time. the only time top heavy power curves become an issue is with improper gearing..........ala Celica GTS.

and streetability. A second gear pull off of a 30mph corner is pretty boring until you get into the happy zone of the rev range, by which time you're already going 45mph and ready to slow down.

The 337 is a very nice car. Probably the only GTi I would ever drive (if given one)

Hmmm yeah, now i see my post makes no sense. But yeah i meant what you said. I just don't like people who say "vtec kicked in".... cuz i don't see any connection between that fraze and what actually happens inside the vtec engine....

Well it's sort of right. Below that rpm, the engine was operating on the low speed "economy cam." Past the engagement point the cam has been switched over for higher lift and longer duration which is good for some serious top end power depending on the car. The benefits of a truly wild top end cam without the lumpy idle and poor low speed behavior.

you're right, there aren't little tiny gnomes inside the head that give a good swift kick to the cam, but how else you wanna describe it in 4 words or less?

Yeah i know, but then 90% people from whom i heard "vtec kicked in" don't even know what the abbreviation stands for (i'm not implying anyone on this board. just some kids i know)

how else can it be worded? let me see....well at 7000 rpms the cam changes and then we gotta shift mad quick.....i'd rather say kicks in. i know what i mean. u know what i mean. and i dont have to write a story about how a engine works.

bottom line. both cars a faster than my stock ka 240sx and i'd take either of them in a second. but if i was spending $30,000 on a car i better damn well be geting exatly what i want. and that would either be a supra or a s2k

That episode kicked ass.

aqwkmf, ever thought of an FD RX-7 for half the price? The maintainence can be a bitch on them if you don't take care of it (but I'd expect an enthusiast to take care of his car), but they look better, and outperform the S2k (as well as unmodded Supras). Just throwing an idea out there. If you don't like it, it leaves one more for me to get when I scrape together the cash!

Can you get an S2K for 30k or less? I was under the impression that it was closer to 40k.

[tongue-in-cheek] Why you would get a supra (vs FD3s, sexxxy S13/14/145 or a host of other better looking and more-fun-to-throw-around cars) is beyond me though. I'm just impartial towards Supras. True, but on the drug strip they'll push 600 hp on stock internals. That means that u prolly won't have to spend more than 1 grand to get that much power out of a stock turbo supra. Thats like what the fastest KA runs. So i don't think that you should really call supra a worthless pos. I'd say it's one of the strongest drag racing competitors to the domestics.
