I have a 91 and like many people I have been fighting the idle fluctuation issue. I have read all of the articles on all of the forums I could find. I have tried all of the suggestions, including vacuum lines, cleaning AIV, cleaning throttle body, and all of the grounding / wiring. I even added additional grounding to try to improve the issue. None of these would completely get rid of the fluctuations. I then read some posts about bypassing the speed limiter, actually I had long ago followed the directions to cut the wire at the ECU and it worked. I started to think about what that actually did to fool the ECU to not cut the fuel. It did not allow the ECU to know what speed the car was at so I thought maybe if the ECU did not know how fast the car was going maybe it did not make the changes needed when slowing / stopping. (when the idle would drop) So I reconnected the wire and now the fluctuation is completely gone. So I then connected a switch to the wire which I mounted in a convienent location, so if I ever had the need to bypass the speed limiter I could with just a flip of the switch. My car is running better than it has in a long time and I actually gained a couple miles per gallon. I think the ECU was running in some kind of a error mode, but I never checked for any codes so I do not know for sure. Anyway, I just thought maybe this would help someone out there not go crazy chaseing the idle issue.

May I post up another suggestion for those with idle issues -- to try cleaning your MAFS... I don't know if it works because I've never tried it (I only have mild idle issues that I can live with) but it's something you can try if you're having similar problems.

this was posted up a while ago, its not exactly for the 240 but it is in reference to the Ka24e engine so it should help.
