Power window issues...
So the car I bought (an S14) has power windows but they don't work.
Everything mechanically seems to be intact, wiring looks good too (no frayed wiring). The previous owner said it needs an amplifier for the switch. I've never heard of an amplifier for a window switch personally but I've never had a power window issues before anyways. What's the most common thing to go wrong with the power windows on the S14s and what most likely to fix it? Thanks |

The amp is the most common thing to go bad. Its a small white box located in the door. I will find a pic....http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=160297

if that is bad will both windows not work. I can't roll either window up or down (can't even roll the pass side window down with the pass side switch). |

well, the pass window does not have an amp. If neither windows work than it may be your window switch

I meant the window switch on the door itself. Will your pass window roll up with the pass. door switch?

hmm, Im sure the car only has 1 amp thats mounted in the drivers door, but i cant remember if that amp runs both windows, or just the drivers. Its been a while since ive screwed with a window.
May want to wait for someone more familiar with those issues

If someone chimes in then great, if not, then I figure I'll drop the cash on a switch AND an amp, put one in at a time. See which I needed and then keep the other for a spare OR, just sell it on the classifieds, help out someone. |

Amplifier only drives the driver side window, and it's only found on 95 models.
Do this, check the motors first with a battery to make sure they work. If they're good, move on the diagnosing the switch per the FSM, check for power and ground to the switch and output for both sides. It's stupid to buy parts and hope you'd found the solution when you can properly diagnose it with a multimeter and know for sure.

Pull out the regulator behind the door panel. It is in a little off white rectangle box. Pull out the circuit board and look on the back. You may have some worn spots on the board. Solder them up and you're good.

That is the amplifier, not the regulator. Please don't confuse the situation any more than it needs to be.

R240NA, i have to ask since you know a lot about the subject. I am having a hard time trying to find the 96 window switch with the amp.
I see a lot of 94, 95 and maybe some 97 here and there (master power window switches). They all have different pin counts in the back. Will either one work? the 94-95 is a 11-pin. the 96 is a 12-pin and the 97 is a 10-pin. |

Incorrect info. The 96-98 switches are all the same. I've swapped plenty of them back and forth. Only the 1995 model is different.
1994 is the S13 chassis, not even remotely close to working.
