![]() I've been looking into getting an Enthalpy tune but I'm not sure if I should wait till I mod the car up a little more. Right now the car is a Stock Redtop SR with a freshly purchased FMIC, MBC, and full Turboback. I'm gonna be upping to a 2871 in 7-8 months or so, but I'm thinking I can get the most out of this T25 with a tune as I can get retunes for the 2871 and injectors for Hella cheap (~$50). Is the tune gonna make that big of an improvement since it doesn't really cost much to tune for something else later. So theoretically on 12 lbs is the difference with the tune going to be that noticeable. Like 20whp or more?

I actually have a Haltech E8 but just consider it over kill for my application simple 2871 that Enthalpy/JWT has TONS of experience with. I guess I have the thinking of why pay $1500 for something when I can get comparable results for $500. I can spend a grand elsewhere that will help me more than that extra minuscule power I'd pick up. Plus I'm buying the turbo and cams with the money for the Haltech.

I see that as a bad investment. I would rather run the t25 on a haltech then a t28 on a enthalpy tune. When you get these tunes from enthalpy, you are getting generic tunes that are safe. With the haltech, you get a custom tune made specifically for your setup. Plus there is also the rumor that enthalpy has gone down in customer service as of lately.
I went the expensive route and got a stand alone. Seen too many people that blow their motors because they went frugal on the most important part.

Just get a z32 mafs, some 550cc's and an safc2 if you're gonna tune a stock t2 small. Plus when you get your enthalpy tune and 2871r you could use the safc to fine tune it, as it won't be spot on being that it's a mail order rom tune. *edit - if it were me I'd just hold off and get the 2871r, cams, valve springs, valve retainers, head gasket, head studs, injectors, tomei throttle body, greddy intake manifold, tomei exhaust manifold and a haltech or fcon vpro, OR a power fc with a z32 mafs and get some REAL TIME dyno tuning. |

Engine management is the most cructial part of your whole set up. Inproper tuning can make your car run like crap or not run at all. Dont gimp on it PLEASE! WIth rom tunes you will have to retune over and over again. This may be more time consuming than to have a stand alone.

I'm thinking of going pfc/Datalogit I just feel like staying MAF will be much easier. 2871 .64, BC 264's with springs & retainers, arp headstuds, metal head gasket, 720's, Freddy IM, Swain coated stock manifold, possibly extrude honed.... And Z32 MAF. ~400whp is the goal. Like I said it's a daily.. That's my only concern. I've heard ROM's on stock ECU's are better around town. I like pfc for selectable boost by gear also. All I know at this point is I'm selling the Haltech. Plus if I go to the trouble of tuning a pfc now for the T25, I'll have to pay the same dyno time/tuning again when I upgrade the turbo. I'm trying to decide upon the best option for the T25 and then later the 2871. |

Fuck a rom tune, same your money and get a power fc. Think about it, how great are any rom tunes when they mail you an ECU back? If its actually on a dyno and rom tuned, that would be great. You get a rom tune, go ahead and buy a safc and get it tuned some more locally cuz itll run rich for sure. How I know, I went thru the same crap your planning right now and wasnt impressed.
Power FC or AEM fTW....save your money, leave the T25 alone, buy your turbo and do your upgrades, tow the car to a shop and have them tune everything. Itll cost some money but itll gurantee that everything is done right from the get-go and you wont have to do shiet over again later down the road untill you upgrade something else major. |

^ for a good reason. Here is a link to Nistune. It may be a cheaper alternate to achieve your goal. http://home.aanet.com.au/nistune/

Damn, I'm leaning towards PFC/Datalogit heavily at this point... I've talked to a couple tuners in the area. All their experience is with PFC and AEM. No one I've talked to has even tuned a Haltech. Looks like PFC is the front runner right now. I would still like launch control ability. I've had some experience with Datalogit, how much better/pricier is the Power excel PRO software?

Go with AEM just cuz the technology is atleast newer compared to the PFC. Thats not a knock on the PFC, just stating the obvious since the technology for the PFC has been out since the early 90s.
Do AEM got more features than the PFC? I imagine it does from what i remember somebody telling me. |

Eh... I'm not entirely sure why. I like ROM tunes. It makes life easy.
But personally, I'm excited that CalumSult now has the real-time ECU for the KA, since I'll be KA-T over the winter time, but he actually has more experience with SRs. Look for information about him on the SR20forum, KA-T.org and Hybridka.... This is from 8-bit on KA-T.org: "The software you use is TunerproRT, which is a somewhat freeware tuning program. You can pay 30 bux or something, or you can just wait the 10 seconds delay for not paying. You have full software usability even without paying. Calum also sets you up with a consult-over-USB port that streams your nissan consult data. You can use some of the various freeware nissan consult software, or you can get what most of us truly enjoy, Nissan Datascan, by blazt. It costs like 30-35 dollars. It taps right into your USB port, you get full on consult use, and Calum can provide you the appropriate numbers to input so you can have REAL FULL TIME MAPTRACING on fuel and timing maps! " So relatively inexpensive, pretty good shit. ![]() |

If you buy an EMS
I can build you a base map that will run as well as an enthalpy tune then take to dyno for less than an hour fine tune a couple key places in map done. ![]() I build base maps for cheap, you paypal me, I email. good to go. depends on EMS though ![]() buy a haltech from john or me or outer space ![]()
