if it ain't broke don't fix it. i believe the only difference may be the o2 sensor pins. do an ecu pinout comparison.

I beleive the Redtop ecu is designed for the smaller O2 sensor, and the blacktop reads the bigger one.

Are you sure... Im pretty sure that If you did that, You would only get spark to one cylinder.... Due to a different pinout for the coils.

Couple of pin are @ different location for 62 (S13 redtop) and E5(S13 blacktop). If you read the map of these 2 ecu 62(50f00) and E5(50f05), there is a major difference in fuel map, even the rev limit is different.

Your wrong, but nice try...
63 is s13 silvia/180sx auto ecu. I know that for a fact. So, no you will not run into any issues, you are fine. You prolly dont have the speed cut at 118 right? The only s13 ecu that is not compatible without repining is the j4 from the typex because it came with more electronic features that are pinned in there. Anyone back me on this one

I would assume since they both are factory rated for the same power. If you do have a fuel cut, then I beleive that you probually have the # 62.
E5 62 and 63 all work with the same harness. j4 does not. I learned that one the hard way.

OOOps my bad, I meant to type E5 ECUs. J4s are the kouki Type-x ecu and they have some pin out difference over the E5/63 ECUs.

But yah E5 and 63 ECUs are interchangeable. The only difference between an early blacktop and redtop S13 engines are the ECU code, o2 sensor size (but you can still interchange those, just use what elbow size your using) and the blacktops have better cooling (head fins).

Im saying this since ive had personal experience on this, Ive run both 63 and E5 ECU and swapped engines around.

You'll want to run a skinny o2 if you have a redtop (#62 or #63) ecu.

the one with the pins moved around is the J4/5 not the E5/6 the 62/63 is the same as the E5/6.

The small and big o2 sensors output the same - so its whatever fits ur car.

I've swapped those ecus back and forth and tuned both with daughterboards... You'll have no problems.

Now i dont run either anymore - just use the programmable narrow output off the innovate.
