my 92 didn't pass this last time either, the numbers where way too high...took it to my mechanics, had them run diagnostics, they put a new cat on, and all the numbers dropped by almost 1/2.

A good cat is probably the best thing for emissions.

I suggest doing what I do, run with 1 cat, and 1 in storage somewhere...when it comes time to doing emissions, put the cat you had in storage on...since it's barely used....it'll pass with flying colors..afterwards, go and switch cats again.  You'll always pass this way....unless your engine is really running like crap.

Move somewhere that doesn't have emissions. . .

High CO is typically caused by a rich condition, how was your HC reading? &nbsp;Close to the limit? &nbsp;Ideally you want low numbers for all three (like my car&#33<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>. &nbsp;Yeah having no tests would be nice, but hey, consider it a clue that your car needs some maintenance. &nbsp;A car that's running right should never fail unless it's heavily modified.

Did it fail at idle or at speed?

Try the basics first. &nbsp;Clean the MAF and AIV. &nbsp;Check your idle speed (IAA valve) if it's idle where you failed.
