I drive a European S14 which has a SR20DET and I've been having problems with my idle. Tonight I have taken a closer look to come up with a better description of the problem.

Here's what I've come up with:

The engine is already warm and it idles at 800rpm. But after a half a minute or so the idle will drop to about 600rpm, at which point the exhaust will spew out some dark smoke.

This drop in rpm will last about 5 seconds, after which the idle will climb back up to 800rpm with no visible (colored) smoke at all.

And the cycle repeats itself.

What could be the problem?  I just hope it won't be too expensive to fix.

What type of BOV do you have? Sounds like a classic case of atmospheric BOV staying a little open.

I have an HKS SSQV... I've had it for about a year now and didn't start having problems until about 3 months ago. But I'll try adjusting the screw of the BOV...

Could it be that the lambda sensor is faulty? Or some kind of blown gasket?

Maybe a small boost leak, however you would also notice that a lot more. You'd have different problems also.

If you 02 sensor was bad you'd run rich however I doubt that you would be having those idle problems.

How is it driving wise?
