So I've heard there's a wheel offset calculator floating around online for our cars... but where is it? I couldn't find it in the links section, and even if I did, I'm not sure if it would take my coilover suspension into account.

I'm looking seriously into a set of 16x7 and 16x8 rims, with offsets of +35 and +38 respectively.

Now I realize that yes, these rims will fit nicely under the fenders and won't be super flush with them, but that's not my concern (fenders will be rolled anyway)... I'm worried about them rubbing my coilovers!
Although the rims are staggered, I will be running 205s on all 4 corners, meaning the rears will be stretched a little. I'm doing this for a number of reasons, mainly to keep my car pretty balanced (as little understeer as possible) and also so that I can acheive good, smooth break-away in the rear.
I imagine 16x8 +38 with 205/55/16 tires will be close in the rear, but would like to be more 'sure' if I'll need spacers or anything.

That said, would any of you recommend AGAINST running same sized tires on staggered rims? Will a 205 tire even FIT on a 8" wide rim? Pros and cons? Where can I buy *quality* 3, 5 and 10mm spacers?

you'll be fine with the tires like that on the rims. its really ok. i do that but reverse haha..
15x7 front 15x6.5 rear oh well

my front are 7" +27 and clear coilovers AND z brakes (kosei k1s-because of spoke design)

lower offsets will clear coilovers, but not z brakes
higher offsets will clear &nbsp;z brakes but not coilovers. are you planning to upgrade your brakes eventually?

what wheels are you looking at?


yes a 205 will fit alright. people have put 205s on 10" wheels (drift style) but i wouldnt go higher with a 205 on a 8". the max i'd go on 9" is 215. it depends what your doing. you are going to have a small sideway, which drift is great, but grip your most likely going to be slippign back there. if you doing both, might be better to go 215/45 or 50. with a 205/55 on a 8" you'll be fine.

please correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the Z brake clearence was more a function of spoke design not so much offset... &nbsp;being that offset doesnt affect the center hubs relation to the "spokes" of the wheel &nbsp;i.e I had racing hart C200evos on my car 17x7 with the same offset as my stock SE rims but they didnt clear because the spokes were nearly flush with where they mounted to the hub. &nbsp;now my stock SE wheels where they mount to the hub is further back than the spokes (did any of that make sense?)

but yeah, it doesn't say anything about your newfound clearance issues with the coilovers....

yeah that is true but its a combination of both
black racing has certain offsets that in other wheels would clear, but there's wont, because of spoke design.

it is spoke design as well as offset. maybe moreso spoke design, that's what i was asking what wheels he was looking at.

yeah my post was moreso for my clarity than anything else <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> &nbsp;still all good info. &nbsp;iirc the Volk GT-C has two verions same wheel same look but they curved the spoke for the Face II version for just such occasions. &nbsp;(those are the next set Im getting if I ever save some money...)

I'm looking at a set of older Volk Racing rims... or what LOOK to be volk racing mesh rims, but not quite as "classic" as SSR or Hayashi.


edit: Is that wheel offset calculator made for 240sx size, or is it "universal"?

its universal. those rims look good.

also if you need to borrow some spacers i got 10mM ones you can use, just need longer wheel studs (you'd have to buy those from me-since its permanent, i have 50MM studs too)

How long are stock studs, and how much are you asking for the 50mm studs? <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> &nbsp;I have a pair of 5mm spacers that Charlie gave me with the pair of volks that I picked up from him... I can't imagine needing spacers on all wheels, maybe just the rears, to give it more of a fender-filling look.

OTOH, it'd LOOK nicer to have maybe 15mm spacers up front and 20mm spacers out back... any idea where you can get those stud-to-stud spacers that bolt on to the original studs, and have another 4 studs sticking out of the spacer? (those expensive spacers/converteres)

um..the studs..i bought them with spacers from project silvia for $110 (spacers and studs and shipping)

if you just want the studs, 50 bucks? how's that? all 16 of them are 50 mm, never used, brand new, sitting in the trunk in the back of my car. i can show you this weekend.

spacers are 10 MM, fit 5x114.3, 4x114.3 and other..universal style.

America's Tire Co. matches online prices. just pay for balance? or mount..soemthing like that. good deal i say! should be less then shipping.

you can get those fancy ones from wheelchoice. quite expensive, but the safest way to go imho.

you might have clearance issues in the front. I did with my stock wheels. I just put some camber bolts on and it barely fits... you'll probably need spacers, at least for the front

yeah, i meant camber plates (forgot what it's called). But I'm running 205 50 16. The coilovers i got are some apexi 6-way adjustables and they were rubbing with the tires before I put on the camber plates.

yeah, i meant camber plates (forgot what it's called). But I'm running 205 50 16. The coilovers i got are some apexi 6-way adjustables and they were rubbing with the tires before I put on the camber plates.

BTW, my friend got the JIC's that you have and he had to get spacers. Forgot whether the tire was rubbing coilover or fender lining tho.
