torque damper

So I have a 1995 240sx with a ka24de and I just got my torque dampener from genki tuning but it didn't come with instructions. I called the company and asked if they had any or were able to get a copy of any instructions on how to install it and they still had nothing.

Checked around the net, but closes thing I could find is a video of before/after youtube clips of a torque damper effects.

Does anyone know how to install one? I've been trying all different possible ways, but the bracket they sent with it makes no sense in how to position it to fit on properly.

Any help would be greatful. Thanks!

The thing is though, I emailed the company before I purchased it and the guy said it was for the us-version 240sx and doesn't work with "swap engines" So that kind of throws me off.

If I have to modifiy it, how so?

Any other options guys? I just tried again with a friend. We tried heating the bracket and bending it, but genki tuning makes some quality welds, lol

I'm considering just going to a metal shop and have someone make a custom bracket for me. I can't believe it's just a bracket preventing me from putting it on.

The circle bracket goes on the shock tower and the little one on the head.

You should just sell it and buy new motor mounts.

I'll try to get pictures tomorrow guys.
As for motor mounts, I wanted to get the torque damper in order to save the motor mounts. If it didn't, new motor mounts were my second option, but while I have this TD, I figured, why not try and figure out a way to install it and help out the community in how to modify or adjust?

If you mount it on the passenger side there's two places it lines up the KA intake manifold. One is on top, one behind. Both will require you to drill/tap, but they work without a bracket at all.

No, I don't have pics. Mount it and set it across the manifold, if you don't see where it lines up you're blind.

I actually tried that last night too. I saw the 2 spots.
Would it be as efficient though compared to original spot is my question. I'll also have to have someone drill/tap it for me if I go that route.

Thanks!

The damper is nothing more than a rod. Mounted on either side it does the exact same thing.

how long is that shock? measure the center of one bolt hole to the other. if you want it just alittle compressed between the brackets give me that measurement. Ill make a bracket for ya just lmk where you kinda want it mounted or what points you want to use otherwise ill make my best judgment.

btw how much was your kit?

awesome, when I got home from work I'll try to get some measurements and pictures done.

I got the kit on ebay from genki tuning.
All together with shipping it turned to about $50.
There's no complaints in quality or pieces broken, it's just not a bracket for the ka motor, lol

Honestly comparing a couple cars we have installed them on and tracked. they do very little to improve anything compared to installing the appropriate stiffness or new racing motor mount.

I reccomend Nismo (for a car that will street use at all)

I reccomend Peak (for race car only)

cheers

I'd rather use a turnbuckle with rubber bushings on the ends than a shock absorber. Its going to die, don't worry.

some ghetto guys around here, well not really ghetto but took this idea from japan, he just put an exhaust hanger and ziptied it to his strut tower bar in between the motor. or just get a bar and weld it to your strut tower bar bracket and make a bracket for it to bolt to the motor with

Alright, got some pics guys.
Bracket is burnt and shit cuz a friend and I were trying to heat and bend it ourselves. It was working, but it was just ALOT of effort.
You can see in the last pic, that they welded a small bracket on there to reinforce it.
I'll try to get pictures of it displayed on the car tomorrow, but atleast now you know what the bracket looks like.

If you cut most of them open they are rubber bushing not a gas/oil.

That's an SR bracket they gave you.

valve cover bolt would be retarded. You'd be leaking at that spot in a day.

AFAIK the only torque dampers I have ever seen offered for the KA were just SR ones sold with 'modifications may be needed'.

What's the link to the product?

...actually, it's pretty good quality. The welds are pretty damn good too.
You people are giving me no help in telling me to get motor mounts when I already bought the damn torque damper.

Torque Dampeners have a different purpose than what mounts do.

They are the modern version of bolting a piece of chain to the body from the head.

There is not much to them though. You just need a solid engine mount and solid body mount. The shock is to make it not so harsh as well as not so 'breaking'.

Some high powered monsters in the day would rip the chain out of the body mount...along with the mount itself.

Had you read the ad though you'd see where it says 'Silvia S14'. Although a lot of shit nowadays is written to confuse, denoting Silvia would more than likely mean it's designed to fit an SR. There's also no mention anywhere of a KA, hence it being 'wrong' in your eyes, but you actually just bought the wrong piece. Either way you can bolt it to the intake just like I said and throw the bracket in the scrap pile.
