Just wanting a smidgen of information here. My car is dripping coolant, emptying it's entire reservoir in two days. Needless to say, I don't getta drive it :-(
I've tracked the leak as best as I can, and it seems to be dripping from the front-side of the engine or thereabouts, pretty much dead center. I'm only a beginning car guy, and could use a little help trying to figure out exactly the problem, if it's something a mechanically inclined individual could deal with, or how much a cash-strapped student like myself could expect to plunk down at my friendly neigborhood mechanic. That's 'bout it. I'm pretty much bummed. Car is borked, store I work at laying everybody off (I'll find out for myself Sat), and I'm out of orange juice. |

check and see how your hoses are? do they hold any pressure? can you feel the steel linings bending and cracking when you squeeze them? those would be probably your first place to start and cheapest. but dont just replace em cause they are the cheapest. check and see if its not the resivoir itself take it off the car fill it with water andsee what happens if you have a compressor add some air pressure to it. try this with your radiator also.
and! make sure all your hoses are connected properly, make sure none are coming off etc etc. |

That sounds like the water pump if it's coming from the center of the engine. Since you are only a beginner, make sure it's not the hoses leaking, but if it seems to come out of no where, like behind the pulley, it's more than likely the water pump, also, sometimes, there will be a spray of water on the underside of your hood. It's a closed system, so if you can see water it can only be a few things. Hope this helps.

Yeah, pretty sure it's the water pump. Hoses are OK, those were the first things I checked. A mechanic friend of mine is gonna help me with it in a day or two. The bad news, though, is that it seems to have stopped leaking. . . Makes it that much tougher to find what the problem is
