This quote came from a dead and gone topic about fluctuating idle issues, and was taken from a post by camppain. Now that I've figured pretty much out thatthis is my problem, which grounds should I check for, and where are they? Will getting a grounding kit (the new craze in Japan) help out, or is this something in particular that I need to look out for? How should I go about fixing this problem? Thanks

will someone PLEASE respond to this. I have the same problem and have heard that the AIV is often the problem, but I really don't know where it is or what it looks like in order to check the ground on it and/or clean it.

The AIV (adjusting idle valve or something) is located in the engine compartment, on the passenger side, towards the end of the block (near the firewall), as far as I know. If I am wrong, please, correct me. It is quite hidden, you have to look for it to see it. I also want to re-ground that and to clean it, I think I found some guidance on the 240sx.org in the FAQ section. I just wait to have some time to look into this. |

OK, my problem solved (hopefully). My roomate told me to try this BG (I think that is the brand) intake cleaner kit before I started messing with AIV grounds and whatnot. I was skepticle, but it took my idle problem right out. Cost me $30, but I'm sure it would be more other places because I did not get charged for the labor of performing the service. It may be a temporary fix, but it is nice to be able to stop at a stoplight for once without having my car's idle jump around like a teenager at an Eminem concert.

Thanks for the link to the FAQ/diagnostic page. I will try to get to that in the next few days. I sincerely hope that it solves my annoying idle issues!

Why not use carb cleaner or something like that? I wasn't aware that there is something specially formulated to clean the intake. After all, it's just a pipe... |
