well if it happens when you step on your clutch , it could be your throwout bearing. The throwout bearings will make a kind of whinning noise or whir when they dry out. When this happens it is usually wise to replace the whole clutch. As when a throw out bearing dries out it starts to seize and blue the spring fingers on your pressure plate.

does this sound like the same situation...  when i first start my car it will idle around 1500rpm while i have the clutch in.  then when i let up the on the clutch (in neutral) the revs will drop about 200rpm and there is a whirring sound.  this all dissappears after the car gets warmed up and/or i start driving though...

my first thought when i noticed this happening was the throwout bearing, but might as well get a second opinion while theres a thread open about it.

Silviadriver - That would most likely be the TO bearing.

Morgan - That is the transmission input shaft bearing.  If the noise gets louder you may have future issues with the tranny.  Get your fluid changed/filled.

i just had my fluid changed at the dealer about 5-6 months ago <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

and i exagerated a little (.. alot) on the RPM change, i paid close attention this morning and its more like 75rpm so i'm not AS worried. &nbsp;I guess it just seemed like 200rpm earlier when i didn't pay attention.
